6.5 days fasted: 156 hours. Down 8.6 lbs. since the start. There will be a rebound when I eat. Aside from the weight loss, I've had a remarkable improvement in my eye floaters; my vision is clearer. This I presume is due to the autophagy: my body cleaning up the junk cells. My long term commitment to periodic fasting is driven by the brain science that is showing prevention of Alzheimers and dementia. I suffered a life-altering TBI 5 years ago, and a major depression 25 years ago. My mental health and my brain function do better with ketones circulating. So I stay in some degree of ketosis all the time; the depression is kept at bay, my Post Concussion Syndrome symptoms are minimized and I lose weight (75 lbs. so far). The fasts bring ketosis up to a more healing/therapeutic level. It's a potent tool. If you are interested in learning more about ketosis as it relates to mental health and brain function here is a fascinating (and long format)video of Andrew Huberman and Dr. Chris Palmer discussing it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjEFo3a1AnI

There have been many medical benefits to fasting. I never knew! I LOVE fatsecret. I learn so many different ways of addressing weight issues/health issues.

YOH, I used to fast for 24 hrs after I had a bad day ( eating) and I still occasionally do them ( it's been awhile) I mentioned it to my cardiologist and he said I have to be careful due to my heart issues. It just fascinates me to know people can go for that long.

Right?! I wonder if they get into a state of euphoria at some point? Erika? Does that happen ever? I could never go that long. I get hungry and hangry and headachy. When i was working tho often i would skip all food from rising till 10 pm at night except for coffee just because i was too busy to stop and eat. But of course i would come home and eat chips, ice cream and chocolate and go right to bed fairly often. And the occasional salad to tell myself i was getting something green (not as often as im making it look like but it happened).

I am glad you are feeling better and have had health and mental health improvements. my daughter with her TBI is significantly underweight and struggles with stomach pain when she eats heavy, meaty food. someday I hope she will find a way to ease her pain. In order to not have significant stomach pain she has to eat a little bit all day long. Even early in the morning she wakes up to have a small cereal bar or something so she doesn't drop more weight and isn't totally empty. I wish every body came with an instruction manual for optimal individual health and it updated regularly... I'm glad you have found something helping you!

I have hit that state of euphoria, just did it as a matter of fact, but you get used to it and instead of amazing epiphanies and insights into the quantum connection to all living things, now I just get in a really good mood. They were nice while they lasted though. 😂😂

No euphoria here. Just self acceptance and gratitude.

I would love euphoria…

On euphoria: During this fast I had a few stretches of feeling exceptionally well, not euphoric, but well and happy. In Dec.'2l, I did a 21 day fast with a group specifically seeking spiritual benefits for Advent. During that fast, I was meditating, seeking guidance and journaling dreams. I did feel heightened sensitivity in these directions and felt as though I was given some spiritual direction. I also lost 21 pds in 21 days, and over the months that followed gained it back.

I do so much better meditating when I'm fasting, the chaos of lists, errands, eating right, grocery lists etc. kinda fades away and I can focus on the now and slip into a meditative state much quicker and I find I can go deeper into myself. I feel closer to God and nature. I can almost sense the interconnectedness of everything.
