Fritzy 22's Journal, 10 Jan 23

Power has been off a couple of times in the couple of days. I had to use a flashlight when I gave my cat an insulin shot. Major thunder and lightning and heavy rain started around 4am. My dog isn't scared of thunder thankfully. But he's scared to death of the vacuum cleaner. The thunderstorm passed quickly. More rain all day likely. I thawed a pound of ground beef. May make a meatloaf, maybe chili. Also want to make chicken and vegetable soup. I'm glad my stove uses propane so even if the power is out I can cook or heat up food. Got the last of the pineapple spears at the market yesterday and more blackberries. Pineapple is delicious! It's really sweet.

That weather sounds terrible! Chili or meatloaf would be good! Looks like rain here but hoping it holds off until we get back from appointment this evening!:)

thanks Navy wife. Made meatloaf. Quicker and easier than chili. Had a piece and froze most of it except enough for tomorrow

Thanks for posting about the vacumn, it made me laugh. My mother used to make meatloaf with a shredded potato but I don't remember what she used for liquid, maybe tomato soup or milk. I don't think we ever had canned mushroom soup in the house. The cook book was "Fanny Farmer" in those days who said canned vegetables were healthier than fresh.

Buenita, the power went out about 4 times in a 24 hour period. Once it was out for 4 hours and then about 12 hours later it was out for an hour. A couple times it went out and came back on in just a few seconds. had to keep fixing the time on the oven and microwave clocks and various other clocks in the house. But some poor people haven't had power since last weekend.

Thanks Snowwhite. When I was a kid my mom used a can of tomato soup in the meatloaf. She used rolled oats instead of bread crumbs to make the meatloaf hold together. I've she used a can of cream of mushroom soup instead of tomato. Everyone loved it and I have always used cream of mushroom soup. Instead of dry oatmeal I put in half a package of stuffing mix. The best meatloaf I've ever made.
