BekkaL85's Journal, 30 Jun 11

My friends and I went out last night around 11. We have to wait for their son to go to bed first. We didn't head home until about 3 or 4 in the morning. Of course we were all starving. They offered to pay for some steak n shake. Of course I can't turn down free food. So I had steak N Shake for breakfast! Which all things considered wasn't a good idea. In addition to my calorie intake I've also have dry mouth and a hurt stomach and of course the guilt. Ah guilt...my old friend. I thought that you left me. lol.

So here's the thing. Everyday I try to stay within my goals..and most of the time I do ok. Once a month I have what Michael is now calling a "free day". It usually co-insides (sp?) with little parties that my friends and I throw. It always has a theme. Next one is this Sunday and is a fried party. Everything fried. Yummy. I'm still gonna try to be a little restrictive on what I eat though. I live for these days. The next day there is no guilt because it's all planned out. But I do have the side effects of eating things that I don't normally. Upset tummy, dry mouth, and headaches just to name a few.

I know that some people who are only looking out for me wil think that this is a bad idea. I must disagree. I think that it is good to let yourself indulge now and then. Everybody does...it's just to what extent. Everything in moderation and all that!

I agree with you, I think you need to be able to have a day per week where you can eat things you wouldn't normally. The only thing I still watch is that my calories are reasonable. Without moderating the amount of high calorie food that I eat, I can easily eat 4,000 calories without blinking! My DH and I looked back and in one of his days where he went out for wings with his brother, the wings plus potato skins (No beer) was 2,800 calories! And that was just one meal! So I always keep that in mind, that I need to keep watching how much I'm eating, even when I give myself permission to eat crap and go over my goal number of calories!

Hey I am the first in line for a planned off plan day with out it I would DIE... seriously I would rage quit on this life style like no bodies business lol Obviously this does not mean I go all willy nilly on the food train but it does mean that I wake up the next day with out guilt which is a plus.

Jen, I really think it is a learned thing. It took me a long time to learn not to beat myself up for a poor food choice, and if I plan to go unplanned (like tonight supper) I can wake up in the morning and be totally OK with what happened.

And I think Jen hit it on the head...it comes down to knowing yourself & what you can handle. If you can have a free day & get back on track with minimal (or at least tolerable) consequences, it's your decision. Heck, even if the consequences are major, they're still yours to deal with. Who is anyone else to say it's good or bad if you accept the risk? I'm all for it, personally...I live for my carb-up days most times. :D

Exactly! Everybody needs a day off from work or a vacation and stuff...this is no different! And, I think that it makes the rest of the month just a little bit more tolerable. I am glad to see that I'm not the only one who lets it all go every now and then!

Bekka, one day off is not an issue, but your days off become all the time if you let them. read your own journals my dear. You are sabataging yourself constantly. Be true to yourself.
