p$m's Journal, 22 Aug 22

It's Monday!! I'm exhausted but in a good way. I had a very active weekend which was great. I climbed for 4hours on Saturday since it was Global Climbing day. My gym was open to the public for free. Free lessons, admittance and rentals. No one wanted to go because they thought it would be crowded. Fortunately it was only crowded at the autobelays and bouldering. Lucky for me I had a climbing partner for the day. First time I climbed with him. He was great. He's 15yrs younger and has been climbing a lot indoor and outdoor. I loved watching him climb it was like ballet on the wall and he helped me with some techniques that I hope to progress to the next level (5.9) confidently. I hope our schedule matches up again so I can climb with him.
On Sunday morning I stepped on the scale and dropped back to base 143. Yeah!!! I'm guessing that was from the 4hrs of climbing and not eating a lot. I was not hungry at all after all the climbing but ate anyway because I knew my body needed food. Anytime I'm that active I lose my appetite. I'm not sure why.

Then Sunday, was 2hrs/ 6miles kayaking down the Delaware river which was awesome and confidence building since I hit some whitewater that I wasn't expecting. I successfully did not fallout of my kayak. That was my only goal. It was a beautiful day. I stepped on the scale today worried I'd gain back the weight since I ate late and did a wine tasting after kayaking. But so far holding steady.

After all these activities, I had no energy to do any chores at home... bushes look like they are having a bad hair day and my laundry for 2 weeks are sitting in piles. I might have to just surrender and hire someone to do my yard and buy more clothes. 😂

I hope everyone had a great weekend and is squeezing out the last bits of summer!!

@sugar I wish I could. There are places that do laundry by the pound here but I can’t bring myself to let strangers touch my clothes for some reason. As for the bushes I’m cheap it’ll cost $$ and I know it’s also a good workout.

@otb yes you should do it or go to a climbing gym. Once you find someone to climb with it’ll help with the motivation! I can’t do bouldering. It’s to hard on my knees. Though my new climber partner said I should use the slab to practice technique.

@HCB. I do love kayaking too. I didn’t get to do it much this summer though.

Sounds like a great weekend. The bushes and dirty clothes will always be there, the ability to climb and kayak may not. Live life!

What a great fitness weekend! I've always wanted to climb but I'm afraid of open heights so I've never attempted it...

My climbing partner is moving back by me in a month or so. Haven't climbed outside for close to 5 years can't really do any trad climbing by yourself so I have a ton of shinny peices of metal hanging in the basement collecting dust. We use to go to the shawangunks in NY to do multi pitch lead trad climbing 1 to 2 times a week.

@diana don’t let fear stop you. Just be careful when doing scary things. I have a fear of heights and vertigo. Some of the walls are really high at the gym and I get nauseous before a climb but it is just a warning to me to be careful.

@Tom thanks

@otb I haven’t climbed outdoors yet. I want to but still scared. I’m working the nerve up to just join a group maybe and watch. Oh I’m in NY. A lot of propels I climb with go to the gunks and powerlinz. If you need a new partner I recommend joining a climbing group or gym. You’ll meet plenty of people looking for partners.

Hmmmm never heard of powerlinz before going to have to check it out. Once I get back in the swing of things next year your more than welcome to meet up with me and my partner in the gunks just to watch or to tie in and do some nice easy welcome to the gunks type top roping i know plenty of spots in the traps or at peterskill that aren't that tall and don't have that crazy scary exposure the gunks are know for.. perfect for first timers. I need to get back Into it so I can get my 6 year old onto the rocks as well.

P$M WOW what a GREAT weekend!! So impressive, too, & what amazing energy you have! I don't know how you climb with vertigo! I also suffer from it (probably Ménière's disease) & had to stop dancing bc the turns made me too dizzy/nauseous. Do you take Dramamine for it, or just tough it out? 😎 I also did a 4 hour Whitewater rafting trip on the Delaware, back in May, not in a kayak, thank goodness, but in Class 2-3 rapids! I DID fall out at 1 point & it was VERY scary, bc 1. we didn't have helmets(!) & 2. you forget everything they told you to do (keep your feet up & float out of the rapids) & just feel the rushing water trying to knock you off your feet as you're desperately trying to get back in the raft! Luckily, our guide was there & helped me. It wasn't all bad, it was beautiful, fun & exhilarating too. I'm happy I did it, but it's a 1 & done for me - bucket list item ✔️! I was so exhausted I almost fell asleep on the bus home! Lol Now I prefer nice calm kayaking on the beautiful lakes of NJ!
