writingwyo's Journal, 27 Feb 22

The first photo was from about 15 years ago when I was at my highest weight. I know I hit 200 pounds, but not sure how much I went over that because I stopped weighing myself. Putting the black electrical tape over the check engine light fixes it, right? I had an undertreated thyroid condition and was on medication that caused weight gain. When those two situations were resolved, I dropped down to 160 and was able to maintain it pretty well except for the period when I was on another weight gaining med. The second photo is from 2019 when I had creeped up to about 180 thanks to a foot injury and menopause. I decided to lose weight on purpose when my knees started buckling on stairs. The last is what I look like now.

I mention the extenuating circumstances, because we all have those sometimes. Weight isn't always under perfect control and life interferes sometimes. None of that makes anyone "less than." It pains me when I see people beating themselves up.

I now try to focus more on health more than weight, and it works for me. I eat better and exercise more. I'm down to what I weighed when I was a ski bum in my 20s. I'd like to lose a bit more to make climbing on skis and hikes easier, but I'll take this, considering where I've been.

Being 60 lbs lighter must make it easier to be active.

Thank you, armyvet and DJ 😊 erikahollister - indeed it does. I noticed a huge difference even with the 30 I lost between last ski season and this one. Climbing is considerably easier. It also helps that the meds I take now don't make me sleep 12 hours a day 😴

I'm really encouraged by your post. Extenuating circumstances, meds, illness, disability...these are all things I'm familiar with. But I try not to beat myself up too bad (life has beat me up enough, right!) and I appreciate stories like yours, that help me not to feel like I'm the only one. You look great!! Healthy, thin, active...well done!!👏👏👏💙

Congratulations Writingwyo!🎉👏👏👏👍🌺🌸🌼 That dang thyroid! They fixed mine and I lost weight and I kept it going. March now I will be getting it back in gear again. Enjoy your loss and don’t let it slowly and quietly creep back up like I have. Yahoo Writingwyo!!!

Shrewdness -- people just don't realize what a wonky thyroid can do to you! Mine eventually turned cancerous and had to be removed. After years of not being taken seriously about it 🙄 Yep, the goal is to maintain. If I don't lose any more but I can maintain this, I'll be more than happy. 😃
