lonniehuffman's Journal, 16 Feb 22

Except for one day when it was too windy and dusty outside, I've been sticking to walking at least 5.5 miles per day instead of 3. My weight is hovering, but it's okay. I feel really good!

Other than a few windstorms that moved through recently, we enjoy mostly beautiful weather here in the desert southwest. People from all over come here to enjoy the warm weather and make use of the reservoir and lakes nearby. I took these pictures on a bike ride around our area. I rode past Senator Wash Reservoir and to Squaw Lake then returned to camp through the Little Picacho Wilderness Area.

Photo Captions:

1) You can see the Castle Dome Peak from the shore of Senator Wash Reservoir. The peak is 25 miles away from where I took this picture.

2) Our campsite is just down the dusty road from Senator Wash Reservoir.

3) Camping is permitted along the shore for a small fee.

4) When it's busy (like now) a camper fills every nook and cranny around the reservoir.

5) California Fan Palm (Washingtonia filifera) trees grow along the shore of the reservoir.

6) Swimming, kayaking, you name it, it's all allowed on the reservoir.

7) These guys brought their jet skis to Squaw Lake.

8 & 9) West of the reservoir and lake is the vast Little Local Wilderness, which has been federally protected since 1994 and encompasses 38,214 acres (154.65 km2).

10) We had an awesome Valentine's Day, full of treats, which I enjoyed (see attached weight chart). The finale was a romantic campfire under the stars. I love campfires!

Pictures!! Glad to hear you're doing well and had a lovely Valentine Day. Nice to camp near the reservoir, except way too many people, though I don't think you're in that crowd right on the water. Coming from Louisiana, where there are so many trees and it is so green, I find this landscape barren and brown, not really that appealing to me. My favorite picture is the second one, because of the different shades of blue in the water, the greenery around the edges and the view of Castle Dome Peak, just beyond the hill. Thank you for sharing.
