We all have our issues. Some binge eat and others eat too little. Some do drugs or drink to excess. Personally I’m one who goes off my feed when stressed but always make up for it later! It’s making the scale go up and down a bit and I’m hoping to level out again soon. My main thing to do when stressed/anxious, or even just bored, is to rip my finger nails. Don’t ask me why I do this! I’m order to stop I had fake nails put on back in July. I finally soaked them off to find each mail is super brittle, thin and have a huge indent where the fake nail ended towards my cuticles! I have a cream and a polish that’s supposed to help but it’s done nothing the last couple of weeks. Now I have three chipped nails. One ripped just by running my hand through my hair for heavens sake! I still picked at the fake nails on occasion but this time I was able to rip off the tiny bit then filed it and added polish in the hopes that I would not want to rip it further. I also spend a lot of time shaping and filing them in an effort to keep my hands busy so that I won’t pick at them! I know it’s gotta be the fake nails mostly but they’ve always been on the thinner side but not like this! I’d say a vitamin deficiency but my toenails are a decent thickness and my hair seems healthy (especially on my legs 😂).

So when the filing and shaping doesn’t work I’ve been staring at a snickers bar. Mostly I’ve been able to resist those (yeah it’s torture some days lol) and have started drinking more pop. Hubby keeps bringing them home for me. I really need to switch back to water. Real water because propel doesn’t quench my thirst lately. Or maybe iced tea :). I may have to give up the long nails and just have water and the damn snickers! At least polishing the nails has broken me from chewing on them when my anxiety is high! Ok back to reading and filing as I took my meds late and they cause insomnia! Maybe reading will make me tired and I can sleep soon so I don’t rip off the ends of my nails!

Peeper! No nail ripping allowed! 😉 Just kidding. That is a hard habit to break, but at least you're addressing it. I hope you're able to find a healthy alternative. 💕

GM, Vitamin A, D, E will help repair the nail damage. Lots of food contain these vitamins naturally. Supplements are not regulated by the FDA. Companies spend $$$ on marketing, quality control rests with the company. I generally, check in with my PCP with a brand to make sure there's nothing more harmful than good if I can't get a vitamin from food. Each year we spend $$$ on vitamins. Some are ok, some work, some don't, some are toxic. I used to get weekly mani/pedi to look polished & professional. It destroyed my nailbed & cuticles. Now I only use non-toxic nail polish special occassions. Also dish detergent is also very bad, unfortunately I have contact dermatitis, from most gloves. There are fidget toys on the market that may help with restlessness. I used a beaded bracelet until I misplaced it. If the nuns & priests, monks can have their rosaries, I can have a fidget toy. Someone on FS used a rubber band on their wrist. Good luck.

My daughter took up knitting to keep her hands busy, and now knits beautiful things.

Oh my! All that sounds like a stress trigger...I hope you are able to find a solution/ alternative. 💜 I have super weak nails and my nails break vertically. I have to keep them really short because like you, I'll break them while washing hair or doing regular things and they sometimes break all the way into middle of nail. I have very bad ridges as well. I don't pick at them or bite them etc. I'm thinking it's from my Hashimotos. Who knows...

You should look into Color Street for your nails. My wife switched from fakes to using Color Street and her nails got healthier. As for diet, well, I'm self employed as an online reseller so I am home all day, if not working on my business I am on my xBox and often forget about eating until late in the day so usually only 1 meal with a couple snacks my wife brings me. My weight foes up and down alot. But I do try to keep it under 2400 cal. a day but think I could be better if I ate a couple small meals a day rather than 1 bigger one.... This is probably more than you wanted to hear, sorry, just trying to be supportive. Keep on keeping on!

I remember a few years back I told my doctor that my nails on one hand weren't growing and they were growing very slow on the other hand. She suggested Biotin for nails. I'd forgotten all about that. Now the nails grow fine, but I'm a nail biter. Like you, I often don't eat if I get really, really stressed or worried. But just a little stress or anxiety and I'm opening all the cupboards looking for snacks.
