Shake Those Pounds's Journal, 05 Jun 21

I just need to vent. I’ve lost 60 pounds and most days Im really proud of what I’ve accomplished. It sucks that next to my 5’2” size 2/4 in laws my 5’10” size 10 body looks like a beached whale. I lose all self esteem when I’m around them😞 I’ve got to get my shit together and love myself unconditionally. Any tips? I know I’m not the only one that has bad days.

Why should you have a bad day because people are shorter than you are. I’m 5’3” and would love to be 5’6— my sister is 5’9” and also would have chosen 5’6” .my daughters are both 5’9”—- they STILL don’t realize that I am not actually bigger than they are. Check yourself and work on the esteem issue.

It’s okay to have bad days. Just don’t let the bad days linger. We Females seem to be so tough on ourselves. Here’s a tip: the models I’ve seen are tall. You’re gorgeous and model material so get out there and let those ‘shorties ‘ envy YOU!

Amazon! That's what you are. A tower of protection for your"little" in-laws. Watch a Wonder Woman movie before spending time with them and remember you're an Amazon!

You're not big- they are little. 😉 My MIL couldn't believe I wear a size 10 shoe. I remember her commenting. I don't think she is even 5' tall. If I wore her size, I would topple over. I never feel fat or larger around shorter people. I feel my height always gives me an upper hand and more confidence- not less. (Not to say I don't feel fat sometimes- I just mean in comparison to someone who is little).

Even though I’ve lost weight I feel big around everyone. I try to remember that my perspective of myself is skewed. It helps for me to look at myself outside of a mirror, like a window reflection or to take a picture and study it. My eyes and mirrors are not in agreement. I hope that makes sense…also, how I envy your height, would LOVE to be taller (5’4”)…grass is always greener…❤️

It is reaaaaallllly hard to not suffer from some sort of body dysmorphia when we're losing weight and constantly changing clothing sizes. You've done a fantastic job in dropping the pounds. A goal of 150-160 is perfect and healthy for someone 5'10". Just keep up the diet and exercise to get to the end zone, because your body will change even more along the way. And to note, my sister is 5'11" and looks like Barbie. I think tall women are glorious and gorgeous because of her, and had to accept that I would never top my 5'5", so I can only work with what I have. No, you won't ever be a little petite thing, but you CAN become a strong, lean and graceful, model-looking glamazon. We work with our own advantages, Beautiful Grrl!💛

you have to get past these feelings and thoughts. If you don't it won't matter what size you are. My whole life my sister was a size 0 or size 2 at her heaviest. I have been a size 16 , but average size 12. I recently lost 30 pounds and I will lose more. Just be proud of who you are. we can't be someone else, you will never achieve that impossible goal. We are beautiful regardless of our size

Congratulations on losing 60 pounds. I know you worked really hard for that loss. I'm 5 ft and would love to have lost that 60 pounds. I've only lost 20 pounds, but when I got on the airplane a couple of weeks ago, and fastened my seat belt, the seat itself felt so much roomier and I could tighten that seatbelt so much more comfortably! What a great feeling! That was as satisfactory as if I HAD lost 60 pounds! Love yourself for the really superb effort you have made and your wonderful success!

The most important thing about a weight loss journey is that before you even begin this you have to work on your own mental and emotional health without that a skinnier body is just an empty vessel. I grew up constantly being told I was the fat cousin literally from the age of 10 and back then I was a size 8 and I was the fat one! My mother and aunts would constantly tell me that . By the ages of 13 I realized they do not matter I learned to love myself from a very young age and now I am 40 and am a size 22 after having had kids 18 and 15 yrs ago but working on it. They don’t get to call me that fat one because I took away their power long ago. This is your journey and it’s up to you to love yourself more than anyone else could. You can and will overcome this because you have to other wise your just surviving and not living and I gotta tell you life is so much more fun when you are in it to live it! Keep going for you and only you.

Comparison is the thief of joy

Comparison is the thief of joy! It’s easier said than done, but I just try to constantly remind myself that no matter what I do, I will NEVER look like another person and honestly that’s a good thing!

5’10 in a size 10- you are a model!!! Stop looking at them! You do you! - and come on FS if you get distracted. 😂 Truth be told, they may be wishing to be more like you. There it is! - I agree with the others- comparison is the thief of joy. I am hearing that for the first time and ai love it! Hang in there.

There is so much wisdom here in these comments! So much of this journey is a mind game. Once I figured this out, loosing the weight has been relatively easy, and I feel like this time I can keep it off because I realize now that it is a mindset that I cannot loose focus on, or I will backslide. Feeling good about the progress and feeling good about ourselves is the hardest part of the mindgame because comparison and body shame is so hardwired in our society. let it go and focus on the progress, on being grateful for anything and everything you can think of that has nothing to do with your body or your weight; try to shift the focus. Then really watch the emotional eating, and the compulsive eating, because I think these things are all related. See it for what it is, and let it go. Focus on your own goals as they relate to you. Not to anyone else!

Just think about the people that are super impressed what you have achieved

Thanks for all of the advice. I’m not self conscious of my height. You just crouch down in every picture to fit and it makes you look fatter. They’re gone so I feel better again. I do look amazing and with the extra skin I have I will never have a flat stomach like they do. Back to focusing on making me the best I can be.
