Fritzy 22's Journal, 07 Feb 21

I've suffered from insomnia since I retired at the end of 2011. For the past year, staying at home because of COVID - I still don't have regular sleep hours, but just accept it. I'm retired so I can take naps or sleep whenever I want (if I can). For the few months, since the time change I wake up around 2-3am. I was up at 3 this morning, had my hot chocolate and 1/2 bagel. Fed all the cats including the feral cat on the porch and fed Bobby. I was cooking chicken stew at 7:30am and ate lunch at 10am. Feels like it should be late afternoon and it's not even 10:30.

I was tempted to weigh myself again this morning but still want to wait until the first. I'm hoping to lose between 5-7 pounds this month.

Morning Fritzy. I missed this earlier. Yeah we just need less sleep when we get older. I feel that this is an issue with other people I talk to. They try different methods. But it is not easy. I hope you have a really nice day.

Thanks Liv! My pharmacist told me most retired people suffer to some degree from insomnia. I think, for me, it is due to a lack of a schedule. So I am learning not to worry about it. If it's dark and 7:30 and I fall asleep and wake up at 2 or 3 or even 4am, then fine. I have breakfast at 4am, lunch around 10 and dinner before 3pm.

I sleep maybe 6 to 7 hours as well. Many nights less. I have made peace with it but it can be a bit debilitating if the lack of sleep leave you tired all day. I find that this is what I need so I am good

Same here. I am actually happy when I get 6 hours. I have always had trouble sleeping, but I'm just happy that I don't have to get up and be somewhere every morning. I also try to schedule appointments later in the day, in case I have had a tough night. My old acupuncturist told me people used to wake up in the middle of the night and stay up for a few hours, then go back to sleep. It was called second sleep.

I'm feeling good about my sleep right now. My doctor had suggested getting into a schedule. To stay up until 10 or 11 before going to bed and then sleeping until 6 or 7. Well, that doesn't work for me. I can't stay up until 10. 9 is late for me. So if I fall asleep at 8pm and am up at 3 or 4 that is turning out to be just fine. When we set our clocks forward in a few weeks, things will change. I will need to wait until it's dark before going to sleep!
