Oh the poor, poor kid. How heartbreaking. I'm glad you are there to comfort and help... To treat the sad child with kindness and give hope. Treat yourself with care today too.

What you are doing is so important. I did this for four kids many years ago. One at a time, thank goodness. All gay, all from juvenile hall on drug and theft charges. One by one they came to my house as they were released. One by one they began to get their lives together. They are now 50 years old. They are all healthy and happy. One of the girls went on to be a forensic nurse pathologist. I love them all, I am still in contact with them and they all still call me other mother..

@Diana, Lilit, Melissa, and, Deborah - thank you. He's a very sweet kid and I have nothing but hope for his future.
@Kenna - the joke around my house for the longest time was that I was running a home for troubled kids. I'm not really. We took in a classmate of my daughter's years ago that was in the same kind of boat. It's amazing what kindness and safe boundaries can do for kids that have been abused and treated badly. For that matter, adults too. Every kid deserves a fighting chance.

I'm glad to hear there are people out there that are willing to open their homes. Thank you and others for what you do. Without you, I don't want to know where they would be.

You guys are very kind. In the grand scheme of things I'm not doing anything more than sacrificing a few hours of sleep. It's literally nothing. There are a lot of other people that are doing the real and important work of getting these kids on their feet, getting them any therapy or detox, they may need, etc.
I'm not doing anything more or less than what I would hope anybody would do for a person in need.

Thank you all. I'm not really doing anything. There are so many people that do so much more with these kids than I do.

Atrial2–don’t ever think that what you do for these kids is nothing. I have a 30 year advantage on you and am able to hear from “my kids” what it meant to them to have that simple helping hand. One helping hand passing along to the next and the next, and the next thing you know the kid has been pulled out of that abyss and has a chance to move along on the right track. They remember.

Giving a little of yourself makes such a huge difference to people who need help. Even though I only gave birth to boys, I have a “daughter” whose family disowned her at 15 when she got pregnant. She and her 12 year old son are/and always will be my family! Each person you help has the opportunity for loving and loving.
