peeperjj's Journal, 31 Jan 20

Well some wise guys were making jokes at the gym. Only heard a small bit of it but they nodded towards us (we were the only ones in the area). Pretty sure they were intimidated. Hubby was on decline bench with like 245# while they were doing 95 on the incline. They ended with 155. And one is a guy I’ve seen in there training others. Pretty weak for a trainer I’d think.

Decided to do 95 on incline since that’s the weight they did easily (struggled up to the 155). Couldn’t go clear to my chest but busted out 3 sets of 8 reps as low as I could go... while they were watching.

Wanted to try the 155 but was afraid I’d hurt myself. Dislike people making jokes against women or someone stronger/weaker than them. Irritated the shit outta me lol.

My new goal: bench more than he can on incline ;).

Laudable goal but chase it carefully. Avoiding injury will get you there much, much sooner. Sorry they bothered you.

I know I'm not a gym rat like you but I'm not wilted lily either... I've out lifted plenty of men on work things. And yes... it made me smile inside.

Bah - ignore idiots. Makes life so much more pleasant. :)

They sound like real bleepbags. Peeper, i feel like i remember when you first started going to the gym. You have become a total pro! I am super inspired by you. Not sure if i have mentioned it or just thought it in my head, lol.

They are called "haters.." It's a shame some people can't be supportive.. I too get comments..mine are mostly because I'm older and I'll hear younger guys n girls say that I'll never be able to lift whatever size weight I have on bar etc..I love seeing their faces when I do it! 😲🤪💜💜💜

I’m over it now but I still want to out lift that guy sometime. ;)

Peeper- If you couldn't hear them and they nodded toward you, maybe they were complimentary. Or maybe they are a- holes. Who knows?

I never count a repetition, whatever the exercise might be, unless it is completely full range, strict form, not bouncing. At bench I always hold down on my chest for a second and then push back. That way I can not lift heavy like others do but the risk of getting injured is low as possible. That said neither do i compete myself to others, which I also think it is a certain way to frustration and severe injuries, nor do I care about other persons' whatever comments. The only think I care is to be honest to my self. At the end of the workout I want to feel that neither did i fool around expecting gains nor did I exposed my self at high risk of injury. Maybe I am getting too old.

Diana- That's crazy. I feel like I have never heard anyone bad mouth me at the gym. Maybe because I have earbuds in. LOL. That's the secret. Wear ear buds! Blast the music. Don't steal anyone's machine. Wipe your sweat off. Put your plates back. Easy peasy gym etiquette.

I don't think there are that many housewives, mom of three, lifting that heavy. Nationwide or worldwide. So why would you mind for others opinion whatever that might be ? You are doing more than fine.

@DP I don't want you to think they were the majority..I have lots of supportive gym friends but it has happened b4. They were in the "heavy" lifting room where alot of the "bodybuilders" go. I do wear my earbuds most of the time but battery died that day..I hate that cuz there is nothing like good music to motivate me! 💜💜💜💪💪💪

Yes, Diana- Music can save the day! Having a special room would be very intimidating to go into. Yikes!

I had pulled my earring out to listen to hubby. They nodded toward ya then one said ‘did you just make a short joke?’ Another said ‘yes I did’ then they all looked over at us again and laughed. That’s when I looked behind me. No biggie. I’m over it.

Earbuds not earring

Ty Tasso! I’ve had breast cancer so I have implants. I’m not supposed to touch the bar on them just in case so I feel like I never get the full range of motion anyway. I could bring the 95# about 4-6” above my chest whereas I normally try for 2”.

I had already read your bio but I did not know the type of cancer. Your will for life is exceptional. This also explains why you are so competitive. Your bio is out of date. It mentions military press only 45.

I’ve always been a little competitive. All in good fun though. I need to update the bio soon I guess. I always forget about it.
