Despite this wretched cold, I ventured out of the house to meet a friend for breakfast. My NSV was ordering a small, fruit and granola parfait and nothing else. It was the smallest portion I've ever eaten at a restaurant ever, for any meal. Guess what? I ate it slowly and wasn't hungry until lunchtime. I am retraining my brain. Growing up in an Italian household with huge portions has really given me an inaccurate base for what a healthy portion is. Full plates of pasta almost daily. No wonder I've packed on the pounds over the years! Thank goodness I've always been very active, otherwise I'm sure I would have even more to lose. Anyone who has grown up in an Italian family knows food is central to life. I'm breaking the cycle now.
