Look at the difference in size. This is why I personally go by the mirror. Weight can stay the same even when you're making a lot of progress. I don't personally do measurements even though I should but that is a much better way to track than the scale if you're doing resistance training.

That link is a video by Jeff Nippard citing some scientific literature that shows that losing fat and gaining muscle is possible in a deficit. It requires someone who is detrained, a beginner and the obese. It doesn't last long though. It requires resistance training, and a high protein intake.

After that cutting and bulking cycles would be more efficient for further progress.

@Ellehuny and all - fat is not 75% bigger than muscle, it is only 20% bigger than muscle, so the picture shown is not accurate for the facts. Muscle doesn't necessarily replace fat - you can gain muscle and fat at the same time. Lots goes into gaining muscle, including genetics - there is no way to predict who will gain huge muscles without DNA testing or just plain trying it out.

Seems more like 50% if you do a search for exact replicas.

It's actually around ~17% larger by volume. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adipose_tissue#Physical_properties Density of fat is 0.9g/mL. Density of muscle is 1.06g/mL. So for 1lb (~454g) you have: Volume of fat = 454/0.9 = 504.4mL Volume of muscle = 454/1.06 = 428.3mL Delta of 76.1, or ~17.7% increase in volume on the fat versus the muscle.

Oh god that formatting is horrendous my apologies.

Huh, guess all the pics online are misleading. Does fat "unpack" outside of the body? Why do they show 5 pounds looking huge?
