billtech66's Journal, 01 Dec 18

since I turned vegan May 2018 and Feb 2018 cut out all dairy and tapered off on all animal protein;
I've averaged 84,000 calories a month.
AND losing weight, and having to eat more to keep from losing too much.
However, Prior to that for all of the prior year, 2017 I averaged 77,000 calories a month.
Doesn't make sense!

do you feel any different? better or worse? how are you getting your protein?

@ NowIunderstand, I absolutely feel different. More energy, more upbeat attitude, better at remembering things (at 75 years old, this was a concern, got to the point I couldn't trust my memory, Vegan Dr. said that could be due to borderline diabetic and animal protein), I can trust my memory now, much better. I've leaned out a lot, not to my late teens of course, but can still do over 20 pullups and 30 deep pushups. I did cut my protein in half from before, no animal protein at all, no eggs either, but pea protein if I want to kick it up a bit, but I get enough most times just beans & rice, and veggies, lentils, nutritional yeast and nuts. Dr. said one of the problems was too much protein, hard on the organs. Plus now easy BM's 2 to 3 times a day. the odd pain in thumb muscles are much better but still hanging on a bit. not arthritis, dr. didn't know, except he thought could be related to nerve damage from the prior diet. We had a 55 minute session but we covered a LOT.

He also wanted me to cut way back on fats. I try for 70+% carbs, less than 20% good fats, & 10% protein. but yesterday was 61% carbs, 26% fats, & 13% protein. (up to 15% protein is okay)

all of it is so confusing. I don't know what saint to pray to! (French Catholic expression!) And if you go down the wrong path, the consequences can be dire. Glad you've found your way, after all of that experimenting.
