LSG417's Journal, 02 Jun 18

I haven't been on here much lately except to record my food and exercise and make a quick scroll thru my feed. I worked an extra day this week, then worked an extended shift on Thursday to cover a co-worker on vacation.
It has been extremely stressful the past few weeks but this past week was over the top. We are dealing with issues with our oldest teenage son. He's been on a downward spiral and we finally have some things falling into place in an effort to help him.
Intensive in-home counseling started this week, much to his dismay. He's not happy about it, thinks it's stupid and doesn't want to participate. He was told if he expected to remain in our home, he would do it. We can not continue to live in daily chaos. He will also be seeing a specialist finally, this Tue and Wed, for 2 days worth of testing. Aside from the normal teenage attitude and angst, we are coming to realize that he may have some very real mental health issues. Please pray with us that these upcoming appointments and counseling will provide us with answers and help us get him on the path to healing, for both his sake and ours.

Things sort of came to a head yesterday, which was the cause of my crappy day and bad attitude last night. The stress has been overwhelming and making it difficult at times to remain positive. Add the extra work hours and I was too exhausted to get a workout in, other than Monday. Working out has become a stress reliever for me, but exhaustion and time constraints prevented it. This next week is going to be just as busy and stressful as I am working a 10 hour day on Monday, then taking my son on Tues and Wed for 2 days worth of testing, then back to work on Thurs and Fri.
We will get thru this, although as the counselor said, it will likely get worse before it gets better. Not sure how it could get worse than it's already been, but I have no doubt it will. We need prayers for strength and perseverance.

On a more relevant note to this site, I had gained a couple of pounds overnight, for several days. I knew this wasn't fat being gained, but stress keeping my body from doing what it's supposed to do. I was retaining water and apparently lots of poo, as yesterday, when anxiety over a particular situation took over, I eliminated 3 days worth in a couple of hours. Haven't eaten much today, other than some strawberries for breakfast and a sub salad for lunch. The scale was not only down the 2 pounds, but an extra few ounces. I'm sure that's due to the fasting (I had 2 glasses of wine last night and eventually ate 8 strawberries, half a cup of pineapple and an ounce of English Cheddar cheese, then didn't eat until after 12N today)Need to figure out what I'm going to fix for supper as it's already 6pm here. The day has gotten away from me, since we slept in this morning, then had to make a trash run.
I do hope everyone is having a good weekend. It has finally stopped raining here, so the flood waters are beginning to recede, although there are several places it will take days for the river to get back to normal levels and for the fields to dry up completely. So, sunshine has been good today.

Your son needs a structured life in my opinion.Serious send him to the Marine Corp, l guarantee he'll straighten up in boot camp and come home a fine discipline young man..l've seen it done before with great success..not because l served in the corp but l've seen the before and after from troubled youth..guarantee the corp will get his head straight and his ass will follow.

Bless your heart! That’s a lot to bear at one time. When my sons were younger, I went through similar with my oldest. Will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers that all of this therapy and testing will help reach a positive outcome for all involved. Hang in there Mama 🙏❤️

That’s great you are getting him therapy. My 16yr old daughter refuses to speak to anyone. But therapy will help. It might take a while since it’s forced but eventually he’ll let them in

Good job being a mommy that is not afraid to take action. 👍🏻

LSG, boy, do I know what you mean by "chaos"! It's good that you and your husband are requiring counseling of your son as a condition of staying at home. I hope you're getting supportive therapy yourself. Kids can be notorious manipulators, and their resistance is maddening. Sometimes, even when you do all you can, they are determined to make a mess of their lives. Letting go can be difficult. (My ex refused to discipline his son from the time he was 10 years old. He's now in his mid 40s -- an alcoholic and a drug user, has a prison record, a poor work history, and three children from his three marriages. His dear grandfather -- who also had a perpetual weak spot for the boy -- had to take legal action to evict him and his wife and young boys after he stole $5K from the home. So sad to see multiple generations suffering at this person's hands.)

Miraculum, Your right on target with everything you said..LSG..l hope the counseling works..personally l doubt it..the resistance to comply is embedded in him..The Marine Corp is a hard choice for you but you have to let go of him sometime in your life and sometime is soon.

I'm not sure the Marines would take him at this point. He's on ADHD meds and with the potential for mental illness, I don't think they would. However, otherwise, I do agree and so does my husband. Personally, he doesn't seem to have what it takes to survive basic training. But it certainly is what he needs.

LSG, Ok got what your saying and this is the last time I'll make a comment about all this...but l asked if the Corp would take a person on ADHD meds and the answer was yes after a mitilary Doctor examines him first..so atleast call a recruiter and ask him..atleast you have covered this option. p.s...l seen his picture..he'll survive boot camp, once he's put into that environment he will follow through..Don't count him out.

Thanks Murph. My husband was always under the impression that someone on meds like that wouldn't be accepted. We are hoping to find out if he has anything else going on with the appts tomorrow and Wed, altho we won't have the results for probably a couple of weeks. He definitely needs structure and discipline. He does not do well during the summer with too much time on his hands. He was fired from his job due to his erratic behavior, so he needs to find a new one soon. We've even considered sending him to one of those ranches that are out there that deal with troubled teens.

Been there, mama! Live there, daily. All 3 boys are medicated and we’re all in therapy (Mom and dad on Prozac!) so much love to you, put yourself and your marriage first, and everything else will come together.
