OrbityGoZoom's Journal, 17 Sep 16

I'm really relieved to find that staying at/under my carb amount is pretty easy! I've even eaten out at a few fast food places and found things I like! I was a bit worried after some coworkers, who also have diabetes, told me that "fruit isn't your friend" and "your beloved quinoa is super high on the glycemic index"... I've decided to find my own way. I'm not going to cut out quinoa or fruit! This morning my fasting sugars were the lowest they've been since I was diagnosed. I had some quinoa with dinner & a cup of frozen mixed berries for dessert last night!

Exercise is still a work in progress. I'm still working on making it a daily thing. I've found that, rather than trying to get in a long workout, 10-15 min here and there is more do-able time wise for me. I definetly see a drop in my readings every time I go for a walk or do a video. So exciting!

Overall I'm feeling much better and my energy is returning. When I went in to Urgent Care ten days ago I had been feeling sick & tired ALL the dang time! Often having to find somewhere to nap in my car for an hour or two after work before making the hour drive home... I haven't done that once in the last week & a half!

Many people have given me sympathy when I've mentioned that I got diagnosed with Type 2. But, honestly, I feel like it's a good thing. It has given me something concrete to work with, a way to measure my progress, and opened up access to the medical system in ways that are so very helpful! I'm grateful to finally know and motivated to reverse this and get back to being a healthier me!

Totally! I'm not into cutting corners or looking for some magic pill or miracle quick fix. This is all about making changes that are sustainable and practical so that I can keep it up for the rest of my life! I actually love to exercise! Just can't always seem to make the time for it. Which is where the shorter stints a few times a day come in ;-) I've been coming in wat 1600 -1800 Calories most days. I was 290 on 9/8/16 and am now 285. Seems to be working!

I have diabetes as well, was diagnosed a little over 3 months ago. I have not cut fruit out of my diet either. I add the carbs into my daily intake, so all carbs are accounted for. For my first A1C test after being diagnosed, 3 months post, my A1c went from 9.0 to 6.0, in normal range. So while fruit may not be our friend in excess, it is like anything else eaten in excess, not great for us. You will find what works for you! Keep up the good work. :)

Just take thing a day at a time. Make small changes that will help with your type 2. Great news about your fasting blood glucose. Listen to your health care providers and please don't drive if you are tired! Keep up the good work!

Northfreedom: Thanks for the support! I had my 2 week follow up yesterday and everything's looking much better! Doc says if I keep up the good work I won't have to take the Metformin any more and will control with just healthy eating and exercise! My sugars are continuing to go down. I was up in the high 200's to mid 300's the first few days. I am now consistently under 150! And know big spikes or fluctuations! So psyched!
