Sandy701's Journal, 07 Oct 11

Back to where I was before the latest peanut debacle.

Walked the usual 3.1 miles this AM, 1 doggy for all of it, the other for 1.5 miles. Great day, about 70 when we began, bright, sunny blue skies and a strong northerly breeze. That breeze from the north is what's giving us those clear skies and cooler temps.

I spent some time while walking, thinking about this 3-day weekend coming up and how important it is for me (and anyone, really) to think about what'll be going on and plan accordingly. Sure, plans change and the unexpected can occur, but at least I need to plan for the changes in my routine that create problems for me.

One example is that DH will be traveling to another city early Saturday morning. Normally, he'd take the doggies for their walk on weekends. I count on him doing that so I can take a walk by myself, maybe on a different route, or possibly doing a time-trial, of sorts. Well, that won't happen on Saturday....I'm going to be the designated dog-walker.

Tiny little changes like that can provide just enough of an irritation that, combined with other interruptions and changes, can send me into the kitchen, looking for food to soothe. I really should be able to roll with the punches better than that, and a lot of times, I can. But I'm also getting better at realizing what kinds of situations make this WOE a bit more difficult for me.

So, today is the time to take a look over these next few days to assess what the days will be like and look for potential hazards!

Which also brings to mind that it's time for EVERYBODY to look ahead to Halloween and Thanksgiving. How will you handle it? I know one thing for sure: we are NOT having ANY candy in the house "in advance" of Halloween, or just because there's a sale on a bushel bag of candy!!! LOL!!

But seriously, it IS time to begin thinking of how we all handle Halloween. Those of us who have been active on this site since this time last year can attest to the fact that a number of people found themselves thrown off plan for weeks, just because they thought they could endulge "just a little bit" on the Halloween candy and other treats. Some of those people never made it back on plan until well after Christmas and had the added pounds to show for it. You've got to think about the parties and other events coming up and plan what you will do to stay on track. It CAN be done.

And, as far as Thanksgiving is concerned....time to begin trying out some low-carb recipes to see what kind of meal you can serve up and still stay on plan. Like Halloween, it CAN be done!! If you wait until the few days before Thanksgiving, you won't have enough time to make it all work. Begin planning NOW!!!

Well, this has turned out to be a novella, so I'd better close and get on with the day. Hope it's a great one for everyone!

Sandy - Those little interruptions can be hard - but life is full of them! As for Halloween, my candy is double wrapped and stuck way in the back of my cupboard. Can count on DH to eat any leftovers. As for Thanksgiving, I have a plan. Am going to design a big dinner around the stuff I can eat - and ask other to bring the sweets and starches.

Good for you BuffyBear! DH WOULD eat the leftovers, but he's doing Atkins right along with me right now, so I don't want to provide any extra temptation for him. In our pre-Atkins years, however, we'd go through several bags of candy that I purchased ahead of time. Not good on anyone's diet/WOE!!! Your Thanksgiving plans sound like they're shaping up quite nicely - I know you had some concerns about that earlier this season. Enjoy your extra-long weekend, along with your DH's birthday.

Hi Sandy great journal..you are so right about planning things in advance..I started keeping celery ready for me to put some peanut butter on them when I get the munchy feelings...has helped me soo much. As for the holidays I have plans for them as well..only eat the things that are good for me..no candy and I make peanut butter fudge for Christmas...I can leave it alone now..I also make pecan pies and can leave them alone too...But I can't make brownies..they are my worst enemy...can't even think about them before my mouth starts watering...LOL...Thanks again for this journal..Have a great weekend...

Bren, ALL that stuff sounds so-o-o good! You're so lucky to be able to eat a reasonable portion of peanut butter without going overboard. There's a recipe somewhere on here for some low-carb chocolate (?) bark that sounded good - and legal!! I think I printed it up, so it's probably stuck in my low carb notebook, if I'll just look for it. Like Buffy, it sounds like you've got your holiday planning well underway; many, many hugs and pats on the back for that!!

I'm right with you about those brownies! Cannot resist them and homemade cookies! Or really any cookie. I can pass up cake, candy, or any other type of baked goods except for those! My son made some oatmeal pumpkin cookies this week~ I did have about two of them over the course if the week, a half at a time! That is better than in the past, when I would have gobbled up 4-5 in one sitting. So maybe I have achieved some control? I'll have to see the damage done when I weigh in tomorrow.
