I am officially back in the saddle, making that transition from vacation mode to everyday life mode. The coffee is perking and I am still fighting a cold, it is hanging on tenaciously. My dog, Blue, has always been pretty much my shadow but he has become even more so now that Caitlin is gone. He's quite the snuggler and loves to be close. In fact, I'm pretty certain he is breed confused and actually thinks he is a lap dog. Have you ever had a nearly 100 lb Doberman in your lap??? It is quite the experience!!

I'm trying to get used to the shortened days and the time change. I find myself counting the days until December 21st when the days start to lengthen again. For some reason the lack of daylight makes me feel like I ought to be hibernating!! Maybe I am part bear?

So, I imagine I'll find some energy today and straighten up this place a tad. That of course is AFTER coffee and AFTER my jaunt on the elliptical machine. Enjoy your day, be productive if the mood strikes or just relax!!! But, whatever you do ... remember ... be KIND to yourself!!

Five things I am grateful for today ...

1. I did not beat myself up for my vacation "gain"
2. Blue seems to be adjusting very well to being an only dog
3. Hope ...
4. Intimacy
5. Canine cuddles

Hibernating, lol. Glad to hear that you did not beat yourself up about your vacation gain, that is so important. Again, feel better soon!

Hi Moose, I just noticed you were back and went through the beautiful pictures. It's good to know that you had such a good time (9 pounds!) and were able to rest but I was sorry to hear you had a cold most of the time. Bad news about the pooch too but that's life, all things come to an end. I'm cooking at the moment and am posting a bit hastily as didn't want to wait until later to post to your journal. I'm a bit embarrassed at not being able to keep up to date. I hope you feel better from your cold. Thanks for the details on where you stayed and what your favorite spots were. Someday, I may get back to Puerto Vallarta to check them out. I'll talk to you later, welcome back.

Look at the pounds dropping off already! You must be part Teflon. :) Enjoy your snuggles today, canine or otherwise!

I didn't know that Blue is a Doberman. My husband had one when he was in high school ("Mozart") and LOVED that dog. He says the dog was his best friend ever. They went everywhere together. I have heard that they are very gentle dogs and great with children, which really refutes the aggression stories you always seem to hear about them. I'm glad that he is cuddling with you. I'm sure you worried about how he would react when his friend passed away. Dogs do mourn, just as we do.

The time change is rugged - really throws me into a lag. With your jet lag too - that must have been a double whammy. I know it sounds like a giant EXCUSE but we had a drastic weather change along with the time change. All I did for three days was EAT. I kept wanting to sit around in sweats and eat chili, crackers, and Colby cheese. Not good at all. Not nearly as delicious as boiled aggs and peanut butter! He-he-he-he-he-he-he!

Don't I wish I were part Teflon!!! I just can really do the fluctuations up right!! It is really nice to know that I can ENJOY and the gain is only temporary ... not a path back to obesity. I'll look for a picture of my babies to put on here for those of you who are interested. I love Dobermans ... they definitely get a bad rap ... although like with any dog ... some are more aggressive than others. Dobermans are VERY PROTECTIVE of their people. We had another male, Khan, who was VERY ALPHA ... except with me. So each one is unique. Info ... so nice to see your post ... I have missed you my friend!! Between your trip and mine it seems like a LONG time ... no talk.

I had a Doberman - he was a very smart dog! Later we had one that was dumb as a brick. Neither of them could sit on my lap but they did often try. It's easier to get your head rubbed that way!

Aw, poor Blue is really blue. Must feel good to snuggle though--despite his size. I always get so depressed when I come home from vacation. And, yeah, this time of year is hard for me. Even though Jan is cold I can always feel the increasing sunlight. Nov is the hardest month for me. I'm trying to set a goal for myself so I can focus on being healthy. My mental health and energy level always improve when I'm eating better and taking care of myself so I'm hoping that'll get me through these short, dark days. Great job getting back in the saddle with your exercise!

beets ... I purposefully took off a few more days so I didn't have to go right back to work after such a nice time in lala land!! We are hoping for another trip in April to celebrate our 20th anniversary and my birthday. Something to look forward too!! Do take care of yourself ... soon we'll be counting the extra minutes in the days!!
