Low carb can help you lose, but you have to enjoy the food so it's sustainable. I don't want to give up my fruits and veggies for a long time. Plus too high amounts of proteins cause me problems. But I do try to do lower carb because I lose better. It's whatever fits well in to your lifestyle. Good luck!

Thank you both for the encouragement. I think my biggest problem with it will be giving up sugar; I've come to realize I'm a bit of a sugar addict. Suz, as to the fruits and veggies you should go check out http://www.atkins.com because as I understood it all veggies except the high carb one's are available from the start. The fruits you do have to give up for a while but they say you can start adding them back in when you want to. Doesn't hurt to look and maybe it will help you on your journey. As to the protein part; I'm sorry they cause you problems. That would be a major draw back for you. I, personally, am not to concerned about the protein as I have a tendency to crave it.

I restrict carbs like pasta, rice ,bread but eat an unrestricted amount of fruit and vegetables.

We tend to eat rice on a regular basis so that will also be difficult, but the pasta and bread I already don't eat a lot of. Tonight we are having home made stir-fry and we always have fried rice with it. Fried rice is one of my faves so watching everyone else eat it without having any myself will be difficult. :(

If you can't live without the rice, you could try eating smaller portions of brown rice instead. A lot of people swear by low carb diets, and yeah, reining in the carbs is essential... but everybody (and every body) is different. You're going to have to find the carb/protein/fat ratio that works for you.

That's a good idea berelinde. I do that with bread i have replaced normal bread with protein bread which is low carb. I have the same issue everyone eating yummy bread things around me at weekend breakfasts so I have my protein bread so I don't miss out!
