mrsmole's Journal, 30 Dec 14

We back to 8g of carbs yesterday because I was sick of feeling tired and bloated. I felt AMAZING, and the only place I suffered was at the gym. I may up my carbs on gym days, as I've toyed with before, but but never really implemented. I'm so glad to be back to low carbs for the moment. I will keep up the fruit with the high fiber (raspberries, etc) pre-gym and see how that serves me.

Real low on the carbs. Not so easy to do, if you eat fruit.

When I worked out regularly, I would eat a handful of grapes and then a protein shake. Gotta' have the carbs.

MM, raising carbs on gym days and dropping carbs on off days is exactly what I do when I'm cutting the fat. It works fantastic.

CoachTee, you have not been following me for the past several months, so you are not aware that I was previously quite successful on a Ketogenic diet, a modification of Atkins. You should read up on how ketones are formed and the brain and body function on high fat just fine after a period of adjustment. Thank you for your concern, but the body is an amazing machine, and this is how the Inuit people live for half a year on nothing but whale meat and blubber! Oofster, it's plenty easy to do when counting net carbs, which is gross carbs minus fiber (which cannot be digested), which is how I am counting my carbs. It works out quite well! Chadlius88, thank you for reinforcing what I suspected is the way to go! I'm really happy to hear you say that. I will send you a PM to ask how much time you allow prior to your workouts.

If you are counting net carbs that makes your total carbs higher. I used to count total. I was thinking 8 would be really hard.

Congratulations! The only way I lose weight and I'm less bloated is very low carb. The holidays wrecked me but I'm back on board and I hope I can bring in 2015 by feeling healthier and eating healthier. When I eat carbs, mu whole way of eating becomes a disaster...bad food, junk food, fast food and it mentally wears on me too. Good luck to you. I look to your entries as an inspiration!

MR, thank you for your kind words. Atkins can be a challenge, but when done correctly, I feel so darned good eating this way! Tomorrow, I'm going to make a copycat version of The Olive Garden's Zuppa Toscana, their spicy sausage soup, minus the potatoes. The recipe I found online without the potatoes works out to be about 675 calories per serving and only 13.5 carbs, net. Since I'm going between 20-30 per day now, I can have a serving of that (huge bowl) which will be really nice in this cold soup weather! Doing my own cooking is the only way to go!
