59Carol's Journal, 17 Dec 22

The weight is up significantly since last week. Very disappointing. I did look at my data and no surprise there is no surprise! I averaged 1195 calories per day last week when I lost 2.6 pounds. This week I averaged 1338 calories per day this week and gained 3.2 pounds. Not hard to figure out what happened.

I have continued to increase my protein. Still a good idea. What isn't a good idea is eating bread and butter and falling into the candy bowl. I was in town two days and ate two date squares from the local coffee shop. And there it is... why I gained weight.

Going forward - get the daily average calories down to 1185 to 1250. Make sure I am getting lots of protein. That is my plan! Next week I have some obvious pitfalls. I am working two casino nights. There is an open food tab for the volunteers. I will be there over supper time. Not an ideal situation. Will require some thought ahead of time. It also means that on Wed I am eating out lunch and supper and on Thursday I am eating out breakfast, lunch, supper. Five meals. Requires a sustainable plan. I don't want to eat the provided breakfast as doughnuts and muffins just don't cut it. Much less cold cereal.

Book Club was fun... food was lovely too. Forgot that piece in my list of high calorie choices. Grandkids have come to stay with me while my daughter is traveling with her fellow. Gifts are all bought and wrapped and others are sent. I am waiting for some to come in the mail next week. Got my father in law to his ultrasound appointment and stopped to see our sick relative. Snow storm yesterday not sure how that is going to impact today. Mostly with getting people out of their yards and such like.

Sounds like some fluid retention involved, you'd have to have eaten 11,200 calories more than you burned to actually gain 3.2 pounds. Sounds like great plans, enjoy.

Good luck, but I highly suspect the weight gain was water from the bread and candy. You should get that back off quickly without severely changing your calorie target. But looking forward to seeing how it works for you. Happy holidays!

Thank you for your support! May it all be water weight and just go... somehow it never seems to be the case for me. Super easy to gain and a long process to get it off. With Christmas coming up it can be challenging as well. At least I haven't been doing the Christmas party circuit - a bonus for retiring! Volunteering is the life blood of our small communities. If we don't chip in then things just don't get done and we all lose out. While I was working I could only take on a few outside commitments. Now I am in a place where I can give my time to a number of projects that matter to me!
