Memorial Day - The unofficial first day of Summer and so much more. Mary wants to meet up with her Papa as we do every Memorial Day on our main street to watch the annual Memorial Day Parade. I live in an old Air Force community and it has been tradition watching the community pay tribute to our military. I very much appreciate those who gave so much so that we may live in freedom but it is still hard for me to understand that we must die so we can live. TOWANDA!!

National Moment of Remembrance On Memorial Day

That poem about where “poppies blow”
And, “the crosses, row on row”
Still rings true, these ninety years
After written, still brings tears.

We still have Dead, “amid the guns”
And lose our young and our loved ones
Those who lived, “short days ago”
Who, “felt dawn, saw sunset glow”.

In Flanders Fields, “the poppy red”
Still grow near where the blood was bled
They, “Take up our quarrel with the foe”
And still die for Freedoms that we know.

They pass, “The torch” to, “hold it high”
And not, “break the faith with us who die”
For they, “shall not sleep, though poppies grow”
Beneath all those, “crosses, row on row”
In Flanders Fields.

Hi Lisa! I hope you enjoy your time with family today. I've been thinking about those who have served in the military this weekend since it has been a big focus on tv. I wish we weren't in a state of perpetual war and that all could come home now.

Amen on the poem, Amen. Thank you Lisa! I love that scene in the parking lot of the Winn Dixie! When I first saw the movie, years ago, I went with my mother, my teen-aged daughter and her best friend. We just howled. "Fried Green Tomatoes" is my mother's favorite movie. Every summer she still invites some close friends and neighbors to view the movie after a dinner featuring fried green tomatoes from our garden. It has become a end of summer tradition. TOWANDA!!!

Beale AFB is still in Sacramento? When I lived in the city they were talking about shutting it down, but that was in 1994. Happy Memorial Day, we've been having summer weather well over a week here in western Massachusetts, nice and warm - I truly am a summer person, I loved the weather the summer I lived in Sacramento, here it is more humid, but it has been warmer than normal lately. Military parades aren't too popular in my town, just a 'Pride Parade' this month in this very liberal town, I'm sure some communities nearby did something though...
