Nikina70's Journal, 08 Apr 22

The first week in a while where I've managed to keep my calories fairly low for the start of the week so my daily average might actually be fine for once and I would like to keep it there for the rest of the month. Only did one 30 minute strength workout though and felt like I had doms until yesterday - so strange - and clearly would have felt better if I'd done one or two more workouts as planned, but life got in the way again - and those all too easy excuses...

I did manage to walk for at least 45 minutes on three days so far this week. Will probably do a good 2 hour walk tomorrow morning as well so looking forward to that. And I might be able to fit in a workout over the weekend. I shall try!

At the moment mornings feel so freezing cold still and in the evenings there somehow just are not enough hours again - and getting into workout clothes when you're all nice and toasty warm is also not appealing. I know it will be better when the temperatures increase, but I also know that I can work around this. Just need to work my plan. Putting on workout clothes underneath my usual clothes for the day - so I can just whip off the top layers later might be the answer - Superwoman stylee ;)

But, keeping calories in a deficit has been good this week even if it went a bit higher yesterday. I haven't been having snacks like peanuts, crisps, chocolate and such in the evenings that would sometimes creep in during the weeks before. I have managed to include them all within calories limits in the past, but just decided to cut them out this week and go with soya yoghurt, fruit and strawberry crisp cereal when I wanted something sweet. And my other go-to was a tennis ball sized orange, which were so juicy!

It's been good resisting, but last night I only fell asleep at 12:30 and was awake between 4 and 5. I think some of it was down to slight hunger, which I had one other night as well. I don't mind it, but I still don't understand people who have 1200 or 1400 calories consistently and don't get hungry - three days of it and I'm kinda starving, which is why I can't do it for very long at all. At the moment I'm aiming for 1800 daily average so will see how I go this week. Since I didn't really track last week it feels good to have a small loss though. If I can keep it going and add in those workouts next week I think 68kg should be within reach.

Most of this is for my own notes so don't mind me...

But to those who skipped ahead or read through - hope you have a great weekend everyone! xxx

I know what ur saying. I read all of ur post. U say ur hungry on 12/1400 calories. I'm on 1400 and like to stay slightly under. I keep my calories in each day but my macros r a bit up and down. I'm slightly off by the end of the week but I'm losing all be it slowly and u will do the same. try not to be disheartened. maybe ur like me and finding it difficult to eat enough protein? that's what fills us up! I'm also slightly hungry most days but try and see it as a positive. if I'm a bit hungry I'm losing weight! stay strong my friend and good luck x

I know what you mean about calories. I can’t go below 1500…I feel really hungry and grumpy. I can’t decide if some of it is psychological though x

Try knocking it down a bit at a time. I started off on 1600 then after a month went down to 1500 then down to 1400 but u could try just taking 50 off at a time? X

Addison5712 you're doing so well! I am not looking for advice and although your comments are coming from a good place they're not helpful to me right now. I wish I had the solid record of calorie tracking that you have for the last 4 months. I would probably be back at my goal weight by now, but it's not that easy for me at this point in time. All the best to you!

Suma, I'm sure some of it is psychological. Some days it's easy and I don't even think about it, but other days it just feels like a battle of wills - with myself - and just with the thoughts/ideas/options around and it feels like such a struggle to make the right choice. Hope you have a lovely weekend! xxx

I consistantly take in less than 1400 calories, but it's in large part because I eat fresh fruit all day long. Instead of snacking on crisps or crunchy carbs in front of the TV, I'll eat berries. Still finger-food, but without the sodium and calories. Good job on the half-pound loss -- every bit is encouragement to keep at it. 🎈

I know what you mean about the battle of wills. I find that I still use food to soothe myself. I’m furious with a work colleague right now. If I weren’t fasting I’d reach for something sweet to neutralise the emotion. I think there’s a lot of mind work as part of weight loss and I am not in the right frame of mind for that last stone. But we will get there. Have a fabulous weekend too Nikina🥰

Nikki, you are still doing a wonderful job taking care of your health. That you're aware and planning on what changes you can and will make tells me you are doing it! Yes, it is at times such a mind game we play with ourselves and it can be frustrating, but Nikki you always figure it out. Keep at it. We all have to figure out how we're going to succeed and what works for us. I completely agree with Just Bananas, when I focus on nutrients it makes a difference. 💕

Thanks Wifey! I feel like I am making some progress, however slowly. It's fine with me for now. xxx

Thank you for your kind words, Becca! Yes, I know that when I take the time to plan meals that include lots of nutritious and unprocessed foods I always feel better and it helps to reduce calories as well so I need to do some more of that - indeed! Hope you're having a lovely weekend! xxx
