59Carol's Journal, 05 Mar 22

I missed reporting last week. I was gone from home and food was crazy. So now after two weeks and the dust is settled, I am down 1.8 pounds. That is good to see. I have been sliding upwards and I really needed to get it going downwards again.

Saying that, today is going to be difficult as far as eating goes. I have planned quite a calorie laden supper. I have figured it out and I can do it somewhat reasonably. Yesterday was 45 years since I married my husband and today would have been his 65 birthday. So the family is gathering for a meal and Euchre tournament. In this way we honour his memory.

These two days have traditionally been a big party at our house sometimes we hired a band and had 200-250 of our friends come! To clarify, the party was one day but on one of the two days! The last big party was the 100 year bash - Dave turned 60 and we were married 40 years. We had a band come from 300 miles away to play. I think we had around 200+ people at the house. Dave died at 62 so I am glad we did it. Two of those band members played for Dave while he was at the hospital. They were good friends of ours.

Thank you both for your well wishes. The gathering was lovely. My sister and her boyfriend won the euchere tournament and my daughter and her daughter took second. The meal was delicious and the family had a joyous day. Just what I wanted to honour Dave.

I don’t know you but your story moved me to tears. What a wonderful family you are blessed with. There are times in this journey we share to stop thinking about what we eat and focus on our souls. This was one of those times. Sending huge hugs to you Carol

Thank you everyone. It is important to me and to my family that we continue to gather and celebrate our milestones. Celticbutterfly I am truly blessed in my family. I will say that Dave prioritized family above all else and after that it was close friends. His wealth was in his relationships. I learned a lot from him since I was the practical nuts and bolts person in our relationship! When he died the funeral home thought we were off the mark in our guess as to how many people would attend. They placed chairs accordingly in the hall. To their shock our guess of how many people would arrive was short of the mark. There was standing room only. Some people traveled as much as 12 hours to be there. It was a testament to the way he had lived his life. My children and grandchildren have been the recipients of his philosophy that people come first. So yes I am blessed and I know why that happened!
