Yesterday was a low calorie, low carb day where I was on my feet and had a good, brisk 5 km walk. So why was I rewarded with a 0.2lb gain?

Muscle weights more than fat.

Building muscle is a fair explanation but over the space of one day?

Things we do one day don't always translate into immediate changes the next with the exception of bloating the day after carb-heavy meals. Our daily efforts in isolation yield little noticeable result (microscopic), but accumulated efforts yield big results. Some days, our body weight fluctuates due to shifts in water weight or having fewer bowel movements etc. We have to ignore the scale and move on for our own sanity. Even with successful weight loss, there will be ups and downs in weight because bodies are not static. Just look for an overall downward trend.

Water weight man. Your weight will constantly fluctuate every day depending on what your physical exercise was, your fluid intake, and how much it how little you weigh. The easiest way to loose weight for many is intermittent fasting

Peoples weight fluctuates all the time. Just last week I was up 10lbs and now I’m down 15lbs. It’s happens so don’t beat yourself up over it😊

My theory, such as it is and probably is wrong, but it makes sense to me that if you lose fat, your body holds on to the water where that fat used to be and replaces the fat loss by retaining that water. Then a day or two later you pee it all off and and it doesn't come back. I go up and down like a yoyo but slow and steady wins the race. I'm down 29 pounds

I like the theory that when you lose fat your body replaces it by retaining water which you eventually pee or burn off.

Could possibly be body recomposition

It could just be your body repairing the muscle or you’re building muscle and muscle weighs more than fat??? Just a thought lol

this could also be caused by some sort of intolerance, I discovered that even small amount of gluten does that to me, could be also lactose reaction, or if you forgot to drink enough of water that day

Anything we do or eat the day before doesn't affect our weight the next day. I would say it takes at least 3 days to make a difference on the scale.
