SherryeB's Journal, 12 Feb 21

Reading through journals on here I have seen some sharing they're feeling depressed, down in the dumps, unmotivated. I know this time of year is hard for many of us when we get cooped up in the house. After the year we just had...and is continuing for many....it's sometimes difficult to feel cheerful. I was giving it some thought and decided to share some of the things that give me Joy and help me make it through these long winter days.

MUSIC 🎶 There are so many outlets right at our fingertips. Make a playlist...move with the music...dance...crank up your favorite songs.

MAKE YOUR HOME COZY ▪︎I have snuggly blankets & throws, soft pillows, rugs all over the house. Nothing like curling up on a cold, rainy or snowy day. Light scented candles, light a fire in the fireplace.

MY DOGS 🐶❤ They need me to walk them, feed them, play with them. In return they love me unconditionally and make me smile.

FOOD▪︎Yes, I said it. Just because we don't want to be eating nonstop, we still need to eat. So, plan menus for whatever meals you are eating & try new healthy ways to prepare them. No one says we have to eat tasteless food when we're reducing our calories.

TAKE A WALK▪︎It may be freezing outside, but as long as the weather isn't too cold, we can usually bundle up to stay warm for 30 minutes to an hour.

DRINK OUT OF A FANCY GLASS▪︎Even if you're only drinking water, add some lemon or limes and enjoy.

LIKE WISE, EAT OF OFF PRETTY PLATES

HOUSE PLANTS 🪴 I even bring some of my outdoor plants inside for the cold months. Nothing like seeing a Lantana or begonia bloom indoors in the middle of Winter.

READ 📚 Nothing can take you outside yourself like a good book. I also like glossy magazines with pics of beautiful rooms or gardens....or food 😀

FIND A HOBBY▪︎Needle point, painting, drawing, sewing, photography, crafting, weight lifting...The sky is the limit

PAY ATTENTION TO NATURE▪︎Watch the birds, squirrels, deer. If you live where you don't have wildlife outside your windows, find a nature show on TV. Animals can amuse you for hours on end.

CONNECT WITH PEOPLE YOU LOVE...OR JUST LIKE▪︎Take the time to sit with your significant other & talk. Play boardgames or cards, put a puzzle together. If you live alone or are alone because you SO works, etc. make a phone call. You may brighten someone else's day as well as your own.

There are many ways you can bring a little Joy into your life. We just have to figure out what it is that makes us feel good.

What a thoughtful and lovely post. I agree about food especially. I used to be all about "eat to live, don't live to eat" while never doing that consistently and now I think there is nothing disordered about enjoying food and choosing it for pleasure, not solely nutrition.

Yes thank you for taking the time for all of this. Really good thing to think about there. I also enjoy some nice hot drinks for comfort ... And also maybe getting away from screens.

Such a lovely post and some wonderful ideas, which even apply for me - currently in summer, but still in somewhat of a lockdown and spending alot of time at home. Thank you for taking the time! 💕
