59Carol's Journal, 02 Jan 21

This was a good weigh in. I lost 3.2 pounds which is exactly the gain that I logged in from Christmas. I didn't get the one pound more that I was less Christmas morning however it is wonderful to have lost in a week my Christmas eating shenanigans.

Once again this proves to me that eating lots one day a week allows me to mainly stand still.

Since this is January and a time of annual reflection, I took a look at my numbers. I began this journey August 2018. By January 2019 I lost 26 pounds. On January 2020 I lost an additional 48 pounds. This past year I lost another 16 pounds. During Feb, Mar, April and May I essentially stood still. Clearly I was on fire in 2019 and not so much in 2020! To get to my goal I have 10 more pounds to go. My takeaway is that I have been going down and that I will need to stay focused this year and not allow 4 months of standing still if I don't want to take an entire year to lose the last 10 pounds!

My basement renos continue. There is now some tile laid in the next half of the basement. Walls have come down and others have been erected. The shape of the second half is now in place, insulated and drywalled. Heating ducts have been re-routed and electrical has been put in. The fellows are still thinking by end of January it will be done. There is a lot of finicky finishing work to do so they may be underestimating.

I spent more time with my granddaughter this past week and she now has all of her high school assignments caught up for when she returns to class (via internet) on Monday. I had an evening with my grandson to get his last assignment done so he is ready for Monday as well. I loved teaching (35 years before I retired) and it is a joy to tutor my grandkids.

Best wishes for losing and keeping off that last ten pounds! Your grandkids are blessed to have you helping them!

Take pride in the accomplishment to date. I also am almost at maintenance level within ten pounds which I could do leisurely over the course of a year. As you say we could do it and get it done with, we could have a cheat day a week, I may continue as I am and exercise the pounds away while eating maintenance calories. Once we reach a healthy weight we have time on our side! We have the ability now to make better choices and never look back!

I know "cheat days" or overfeeding or "have whatever you like and as much as you like" days are dismissed as silly by some, but they work very well for some people if they are occasional and they get right back to their plan, and don't freak out about the temporary gain.
