59Carol's Journal, 05 Dec 20

Good to log in a loss this week. I have to admit this week I wondered if that would happen. All week long the scale just wasn't budging and in fact was ranging upwards. I ate well however my knee was a bit swollen so I just kept going. As of yesterday I had 'fought' back to neutral and then this morning viola! a loss.

I am averaging about a 100 calories per day below my target. I am not hungry and my body feels good so I am going with it while being cognizant that I can add a few calories in if I want to.

Our weather has been crazy - we had quite a bit of snow and then this week it has been hovering just above freezing with high winds, a couple of nights of rain and so things are melting. It is making footing quite treacherous. Honestly when winter hits I just want some snow cover and then for the temperature to never get warmer than 14F so that there isn't any ice to contend with.

My basement continues to move forward. The new rooms are all primed and it really is taking more shape. I am so looking forward to the ceilings and flooring to be done! I picked out some paint colours that I think will work. This is not my forte so it feels like a shot in the dark!

I hope everyone is staying well and healthy. All is good for me and mine.

I’m not good with picking paint colors either. When we updated our bathrooms the paint colors I chose were all much brighter than I expected.

Lambie - I just can't visualize from that tiny little paint swatch what the whole room will look like. My husband did that really well and I was always amazed.

Congratulations on your drop! That is super! Ice is the worst! In Seattle area, we have horrible ice whenever there is freezing. If we get a few inches of snow on the roads, the whole city stops moving. It seems silly until you imagine trying to drive on crazy steep roads with horrible ice. That is so exciting you are getting the rooms finished up! The ONLY way I know how to pick paint is to find other people who have the colors i like and steal their ideas! Who can pick from a chip?? Good luck! I hope your knee is doi g OK!

Melissatwa - I have relatives in Alabama who told me if there was a skiff of ice in the gutters the kids stayed home from school. I was dumbfounded until my dad (they were his relatives) pointed out the population had no clue how to drive on ice and they have summer tires. I deal with all decoration decisions by narrowing down my choices - so once I picked oiled bronze as an accent in one place it became the go to for everything - light fixtures, plug ins, cabinet hardware, etc..I only look at items that are oiled bronze. My main floor has a blue theme in the common rooms so I looked at paint in the blue range for the basement bedrooms. Too much choice is just overwhelming! Knee is moving along. Only the bruising in the calf remains and some swollen tissues. No pain.

One thing I've learned about picking out paint color is, once you find a color you like, move up about three shades lighter than your choice and your finished wall will be the color you envisioned.

BTW, congrats on the weight loss and the progress on the remodeling. 🏡🎄

Shirfleur - that is good advice about the paint colour. I actually ended up doing exactly that. The fellows painted yesterday and I think the colour works. I needed it to be subtle and light as it is in a basement. I also tend to keep the same colours that I like. My neutral common space colour on my main floor will be the common space colour in the basement!

Great drop Carol! So great to hear alot of the gain was from your injury. I know I'm a bit late. Trying to catch up! Hope your weather is still staying above freezing! Sounds like you'll have some fun enjoying your remodel once the flooring is in!!! Hope you're doing well!

Hi Beamoggin- thank you for your support. I am glad there was an explanation for the unexplained weight gain. We have lost all our snow to wind, rain and above freezing temperatures. My yard is grass and my driveway a ribbon of ice! No snowshoeing for me in the foreseeable future. Remodeling is moving along - one room was tiled yesterday!

GM Carol! Exciting that you got one floor in!!! Be extra careful out there near the ice!!! Hope you get some sunshine soon to melt it all away!
