I appreciate my body and take good care of it.

BEING THE RIGHT WEIGHT:-Theole

One of the biggest torments of many people's existence is the pain of weight gain. Our self-esteem can plummet as our weight inches upward and we inch outward. In addition, we know we are healthier, have more energy and feel better about ourselves when we are at our correct healthy weight. Why, then, do we ride the roller coaster of lose-gain over and over again? why do our good intentions about eating properly and losing forever those extra pounds often end in failure?

It is difficult to maintain our best weight partly because doing so feels like deprivation. We reward ourselves with comforting foods such as chocolate and starch, and when those comfort foods are removed we often feel depressed. (I heard from a buddy, depression is anger without enthusiasm).

Perhaps one of the secrets to happily being our optimum weight is to change the pleasure/pain link-up in our minds. Do we link losing and maintaining a healthy weight with the pain of deprivation or the pleasure of being able to admire our reflection in the mirror? Do we concentrate on the pain of giving up some foods or the pleasure of gaining more energy and being able to wear different clothes? Focusing on the pleasure of attaining our goal, and not on the pain of getting and staying there, gives us a much better chance of having the bodies we long for.

Allow yourself to sit quietly, eyes closed, and bring into your mind's eye a realistic and attractive picture of the way you would like to look. Visualize yourself at the perfect weight for your build, age, and lifestyle. Enjoy the picture of yourself at this weight, begin to imagine all the benefits you will have from being this size. Soak in the pleasure that reaching your goal will bring you, and gently encourage yourself toward it. TOWANDA!!!!

Hi Lisa. It is a tough cycle that is for sure however I have to tell you that I really do not deprive myself of anything since I have been on maintenace. I have what ever I want and I just keep exercising and staying within my calorie range. It is when I over indulge that I have a problem. So don't think of it in terms of deprivation. We are not depriving ourselves. We are just setting healthy limits. Before we are at our goal weight we are simply adjusting our calories so we can successfully obtain the results we desire. We both know that this is a lifestyle change and it just takes time to get it right. We are constantly working on it and fine tuning. Hope this helps. Have a great Monday!!

Good morning girl! Hey have you seen Oprah's book review of a book titled "Women Food and God" in this week's issue of "Woman's World" newsmagazine"? I think it's so similar to what you've been thinking about here. For example: "Your body wants to feel good. It wants to feel energized and vital and able to move. 'But your mind--for a zillion complicated reasons--mighty tell you it wants greasy fast food that will leave you sick and bloated and exhausted.' Here's the distinction: your mind will go on and on about what fabulous-tasting thing it would like, but your BODY wants to feel good. So you say, 'Uh-huh, I hear you, mind. Now I am going to ask my body what it wants.'" So Cool!!! I bought the book yesterday and am loving it...let's see what other little nuggets it has. ;-) I'll keep you posted...Have a great day Lisa!!!

Lisa, it has been so many years since I was at a good weight, that I cannot even begin to visualize myself there. I realy don't know how I would look at 140 pounds. I just trust in what I feel when I move, and trust that God is helping me do what I have tried to do for so many years, and failed at. And I am doing it with a joyful heart (mostly...lol).

Hi Lisa! Thanks for the food for thought. It helps me to think throughout the day about how I'm going to eat better and be more active, and you always inspire me.

Lisa! Hi...... Getting out of my funk of the past several days I think. So far anyway, things are good. I am back to entering my foods again and am going to get off the 2# I gained last week and work on that goal of mine. It's been a rough road girl, but as they say, when the going gets tough, the tough get going. The battle will be expensive, but things will eventually get better. I have missed everyone and have not had time to read journals to see what has gone on. I really missed everyone. I loved what you wrote today. There were so many days & nights when I didn't see the end result, just what I wanted for immediate gratification. It's tough, I love sweets & starchs, etc. The sad thing is I am not even truly hungry, just want to eat something. Takes more control than ever. I was really good today and still have about 2 hours before bed, so I will be really trying not to snack. Bad habit I HAVE to break. Lisa, have a great evening and will talk to you later.
