Oh well, a small weight gain. Not really surprised. What is always surprising to me is when I experience a weight loss, not a weight gain!

I still diligently check my blood pressure these days. In the mornings after peeing (and No. 2 if it happens, but it usually happens after I have eaten), brushing my teeth and preparing the water I require for taking my medication after taking my BP. Monday morning, my systolic was high with no reason (in the mid-high 130s) and did not bulge despite taking it 3 times with 5-minute pauses inbetween. It was better the other days of the week (lowest 111, highest 129). However, this morning, it rose to the low 130s. I took my BP twice, still no downward movement for my systolic. I gave up. My diastolic is OK, between 68 and 80.

According to the US standards, it means my BP is uncontrolled; according to the standards from the rest of the world (old US standards), my BP is OK sometimes, but still borderline. I really don't want to take a 3rd drug. It seems that any dosage I am prescribed is good for 1 to 2 years only, then my body becomes accustomed to it. I think I may be suffering from resistant hypertension; however, doctors diagnose this only when 3 BP drugs stop working despite lifestyle changes. Otherwise they simply blame the patient for not exercising enough/not eating low fat-high carb (DASH diet)/drinking too much coffee or eating too much salt/taking ibuprofen or naproxen for pain relief.

I am thinking of trying out hawthorn berry supplements to assist my meds. However, I don't think it will work because I have already been taking CoQ10 for at least a year or so and it has no discernable effect. Besides, hawthorn berry is hard to find in my area (I would have to order online from the US). In the meantime, I will simply keep on taking my BP and show the results to my doctor at my next appointment, and then see what she thinks. At the end of the day, my doctor will be the one making the decision about any extra medication to take.

In the meantime, my sister is having her surgery on Monday. I have to make sure to go to my mother's home (a 2-hour drive) before Monday morning so we can go to the hospital and meet my sister there. However, the weather forecast will not be cooperative, as it has been warm since yesterday, it is raining right now and this will change into freezing rain a good part of today, during the night and Sunday morning. It is also supposed to snow afterwards, but I am more worried about the freezing rain. This would not have happened if the temperature remained cold throughout the week. I really hate freezing rain, it is so dangerous and it causes power outages. Give me cold temperatures and sunny days anytime instead of this! Rant over! It doesn't change anything and I am still going so I can support my sister.

Hope the weather cooperates. Yeah freezing rain is really dangerous. Weathersystems are very unstable right now with several storms going on. I do not know anything about dealing with high bloodpressure. Sounds like you are working it.

I do the Dash diet for weight loss, low sodium, low sugar, low carb for my cholesterol and triglycerides. I found the books online. i don't do much dairy except skim milk, and the occasional shaved parmesan or light feta. I've stopped eating bread, and limit my carbs of whole grain to about 3 or 4 half cup servings a day. And I prepare the bulk of my food from fresh, homecooked, to avoid sodium. But my blood pressure isn't an issue, my fatty triglycerides and cholesterol are. I have one "normy" treat a week, I save up for creamy pasta sauces, or steak!!! And chocolate, or tortilla chips.
