I am about to go on an 11 mile run. Odd that this will probably cause weight gain...

adefwebserver Came to think that hospitals and ambulances often need to give salty water to damaged patients. Saline direct into the vascular system. We purposefully damage the body to make it stronger. Saline helps a speedy recovery. Guess it could be something like that.

The saline is for fluid replacement caused by vascular shutdown from shock accompanied by loss of blood pressure, or from blood loss.

Kenna Morton Damaged tissue often swell up with healing liquid, meaning we hold some more water. Do you see a relation from that angle?

Diddlee— you are probably correct. When you are really stressing your muscles during exercise, as in body building, there are small micro tears that occur— that’s how muscle increases in size. With those tears coms inflammation which pulls fluid to the tear sites. The other thing that can happen is that your production of cortisol, the stress hormone, increases, which sets your body up for weight by raising your blood sugar levels and trigger the release of insulin, the hormone responsible for fat storage.. So it could be either scenario depending on the type of exercise that you have been doing.

Kenna Morton Very well explained. Ruled out cortisol due to very low stress at present. Know it has kicked in at other times. The damaged tissue should heal in 48-72 hours. Theoretically spent healing liquid should flush out by then.
