Kenna Morton's Journal, 27 Apr 18

Four years ago I did some diet and lifestyle coaching for a 35 year old single mom and her 8 year old daughter. mom is 5’3” and weighed about 300 lb. Her young daughter was also obese and being bullied in school, poor grades, etc. mom was not a binge eater, but short of time, ate mindlessly and was bored and lonely.. Over the course of one year the mom lost 175 pounds, stopped taking meds for type 2 diabetes and no longer takes meds for hypertension— all without going on a diet—her words, not mine. The daughter lost as well and became a runner. I mean a real runner. She attempted, at age 12, her first marathon in February. Didn’t quite make it— she wisely stopped at 18 miles but she is so close and she is determined. The mom also runs because she had to go with the daughter. . The daughter has developed a nutrition and basic anatomy and physiology of digestion program that she now presents every year at an assembly. They have started their own running club, THE GENERAL’S ARMY, because she is brutal when you go out running with her. She cheers everyone on and corrects your form. The mom went back to school and spent 2 years studying to become a weight loss and lifestyle change coach and just started a new job at a health maintenance organization. She has also become engaged to be married. She met a guy who is also a runner/walker, lives the same lifestyle they do and loves THE GENERAL with all of his heart. We call him SARGENT.

Last night the MOM asked me to go to a lecture with her- an in-depth look at 6 of the most popular diets that are being practiced today.. there was an cardiologist, endocrinologist, bariatric surgen, a representative fro the American Heart Association and the American Diabetic Association, physical therapists and personal trainers and several people who were considered experts in their specific diets. This was not a lecture to sell anything or get people to buy books or anything like that. The audience was comprised of people like my friend and I who want to be as knowledgeable as possible in the good, bad and ugly of what was out there, and a lot of medical people. Long night— 4 hours, but so worth the time.

That would have been teally interesting to hear! 🙋🏻 Did any of them mention the work being done by Valter Longo PhD? Or any of the research on the Longevity Diet?🙋🏻

Hi— the lecture was very good. They did not mention him specifically but I am familiar with the concept, rationale, etc. we have a hard enough time getting people to take more mainstream measures for control of health and weight. And I think some of the more advanced concepts are not sustainable for the long haul for most people. But, science is advancing at breakneck speeds and who knows what will come up in the not so distant future.

What I find so fascinating about his results is that they are seeing that cells that regenerate during fasting RESET to the ORIGINAL pattern, not to the new, damaged one, as in someone who has cancer, or an autoimmune like me. They’ve actually done a small clinical study with MS patients and had really good results with it rebuilding the myelin sheathing that is damaged which I found incredible. 🤷🏻‍♀️
