madaboutmoose's Journal, 24 Feb 10

I am alive. I am busy. It is snowing. Just when I really thought we would have NO winter ... and of course we must drive a considerable distance in it to get to radiation treatment. Oh well ... we have 4WD and good tires and there is always COFFEE.

I am seeing the dentist at 10:45 for a 'consultation' ... wish me luck. I wonder how much of my money he will want for 5 minutes of his time to look at my tooth and say ... well, yes dear, you need a root canal. DUH. I should have brought anxiety meds with me ... so I could stay calm. I need to be on my best behavior because I truly do need to have this taken care of. I'll let you know how it goes.

Bob 'thought' he would go to work but changed his mind and he is home. I'll drive home, pick him up, and then drive to the Cancer Center for his treatment. He feels pretty good if he is lying down!! LOL!!! He is also broken out in a rash all over his body now. I don't know if that is the radiation or something else. Of course there is only one dermatologist in our small town and he is partly 'retired' and I hear very difficult to get in to see. So ... more doctors a long drive from home. Gosh ... when are we supposed to do THAT? Lordy, lordy it does come in huge waves doesn't it?

Okay ... I must run ...

Just so you know I am still grateful here is a quick list!!

1. the scale was down a bit more again today ... I am almost where I was last week at this time
2. my husband does occasionally 'listen' to me and take my counsel ... LOL!!!
3. I am making headway in reports ... though still far behind!!
4. even though I'd rather it was NOT snowing it does look quite pretty out!!
5. ... ahem ... this DOES COUNT!!! COFFEE!!!!!!!!

I hope to pop back in later today or this evening perhaps!! Take care my friends ... never fear ... madaboutmoose is one stubborn animal and I will survive!!

Just a quickie - Radiation does give rashes both at the site and over the body so ask at the radiation centre and they can possibly give him something for it.

Oh you poor thing. It is just not letting up for you is it? Let's pray that it's soon. You've certainly had more than your share. You are wonderful though even with all you are going through you still list what you are grateful for. What a woman. Here's wishing you a good dentist appointment with a fair and caring dentist and a safe drive. Hope your hubby can get something to sooth his rash. By the way do they give him Benedryl. A friend of mine who also has cancer is always given benedryl and then one day broke out in an awful rash from it. Just a thought.

Well its good to see that your still alive! LOL Hopefully the radiation Dr. will be able to shed some light on the rash - maybe its a common occurance for people getting radiation... Its not snowing here yet, but we are supposed to get a foot+ tomorrow and Friday... Did you know that I HATE SNOW?!? LOL Good luck at the dentist - I'll be thinking about you....

Hope the dentist goes well. I tried to post yesterday on your journal 3 times and it never posted! I gave up! LOL Anyway, I hope hubby is feeling better and your tooth is taken care of swiftly and without issue. We have a dental school here at the University and many folks go there with great results so if you have something like that available to you and this guy does not work out perhaps it is an option....

Yes, it comes in huge waves. I'm afraid they may even get bigger before you can look out over a truly calm sea. Try to treat all phenomena as dreams, then create your own dream. Hang in there my friend...

Yes, I've also heard that you can get rashes from radiation. As Flaxseed said, I'm sure the Cancer Center can suggest something. In the meantime, I find the Aveeno oatmeal stuff (bath, lotion, etc.) to be helpful with rashes (I have super-sensitive, rash-prone Irish skin)--at least for temporary relief. Should be in any drugstore or maybe even the supermarket. Wishing you some PEACE, Moose!

Benadryl might help with the rash too, if you haven't solved it by now. I hope your dentist appointment went swimmingly and your snowfall wasn't too bad. I'm thinking of you often and praying you get a break soon. You really are incredible in your ability to keep going forward no matter what. Hugs my friend.

((((hugs)))) Moose! I hope you found something for your hubb's rashes. If nothing else, you can use extra virgin olive oil, or boil whole oats in water and use the water like a lotion. Hope everything went ok with the dentist appointment.

Other than learning that my insurance will only cover a small portion of the root canal (dental insurance doesn't cover much in a year) the appointment went fine. I'm scheduled to begin my root canal on Tuesday. I'm lucky it hasn't blown up in my mouth yet. I'm a little stressed out. Almost burst out in tears at the dentist office when I learned how much money they wanted up front. Feels like I can't get a break. My mom is going to front me the money. Feels awfully foolish to be almost 52 years old and still need my mommy to help me. Bob is hanging in there. They tell him the rash should be subsiding soon. Only 2 more days of driving there. Thanks for all the hugs and good wishes ...
