RE: Cholesterol

For those of you who are worried about your cholesterol, there was a new study released indicating that eating healthy foods does more to lower your cholesterol than avoiding saturated fat (notice I am deliberately omitting any Low Carb theories here).

I posted that article under "Diet Talk" , unedited and without any commentary.

Buffy enjoy your day off & long weekend with hubby. When I asked my doctor about low carb and affect on cholesterol, she told me that high cholesterol has more to do with a person's genetics and if they are predisposed to high cholesterol not so much by what they eat, since both husband & I cholesterol levels went down after starting Atkins...

Buffy, I have been reading that for years, but it seems those who make the food pyramid guide, the doctors, the dieticians, etc have yet to hear about it! lol Thanks for the info! Have a great day, and enjoy your long weekend!

Good job Buffy! I hope you enjoy your weekend. I dropped my cholesterol from 120 to 70 this past year and I don't eat low carb but I do eat far better than I used to and I exercise, all good things. I also take 2000mg of flax seed oil per day that my dr. recommended. Have fun today!

Stef - Seems like our government is the last to know - goes hand in hand with the whole health care mess!

Boy isn't that the truth, Buffy! I always say all I want is the same insurance coverage that my tax dollars buy for my elected officials for the rest of their lives....not too much to ask, is it?

Auntie - Congratulations on that! The Study compared adding beneficial oils and foods known to lower cholesterol (which is why I left low carb out of it) to cutting out saturated fats. The conclusion was cutting out saturated fats didn't do much to lower chlesterol. We can eat healthy on all kinds of diets (except, of course, extreme low fat diets).

Stef - You'd think - but apparently not.
