Fritzy 22's Journal, 28 Oct 22

Adjusting to colder weather. I always look forward to this time of year because it's usually too hot from June to October to do much walking. But then, when it's cold in the morning it's often hard for me to get motivated to get up and moving when it's cozy in a warm bed with a heated throw blanket. But I did manage this morning. I'm still learning about counting steps. 2 days ago I barely got to 5000 steps. That's the only day since getting the gadget that I didn't walk. Most of the walks are around 4000 steps so far. Right now it's just after 9am and I have done 8067 steps. I was over 2000 steps before going on the walk. I'm just amazed at how much walking around the house I do.

I checked back at my FS history. Back in 2017 I started to get serious about losing weight. On August 1 2017 I was 205.6 pounds. By September 14th I was 190.2. 179 on November 3rd and on December 29th I was 167.4. That was the year I actually lost weight during the holidays! I remember Thanksgiving at my niece's house. I stayed away from her kitchen island where all the dips and chips and really bad snacks were. My dinner was basically a bite of everything. Tiny piece of turkey breast with no skin, 2 tablespoons of mashed potatoes with just a drizzle of gravy etc. I even had a piece of Costco's apple pie - the tiniest sliver you can imagine. I was satisfied but no where close to full. The low weight I reached was 152.6 on March 24, still about 15 pounds from goal. I had spent September through March walking in my neighborhood. I was doing the same little hill I'm doing now but added an extra driveway to my walk every day until I reached the very bottom of the street, another hill, very steep. The hard part was getting back up the hill to get home. I keep adding to the walk taking side streets. Bobby was not even a year when we first starting walking. WIthin about a month we did a 5 mile walk down to a street that was a loop and all the houses were on the lake. Eventually we went further. I would walk 10 miles or more sometimes with lots and lots of hills. I was able to go on a hike with a hiking group I had hiked with previously. Had no problem on the hike but I am slower than most of the group. Then 2 things happened - allergies and Girl Scout cookies. I bought the cookies and kept in the garage freezer thinking I would just get a couple cookies once in awhile. Forget it - I would eat half a box easily and couldn't forget about the cookies until they were gone. By August I was back up to 197 and it's been a struggle ever since. I am really hoping the walking will help me again and the step counter will motivate me to keep going. I don't really remember how I was eating back in 2017-2018 but I know portion control was a big part of it. I remember having 1/4 of a pork chop. I made 1/4 grilled cheese sandwiches. That was when I started having 1/4 bagel for breakfast with 1 tablespoon of reduced fat cream cheese. I remember Draglist kept showing nut bars he made and I did something similar - but I had to put honey in them to make them a little bit sweet. Stir fried a lot. I also seemed to obsess about being constipated - I really wasn't but just did have bowel movements daily. I knew if I was putting food in to me and it wasn't working it's way out I wouldn't lose weight. Sorry for rambling. I think seeing Diana's post about her successful weight loss got me to thinking and really hating the fact that I worked so hard just to put the weight all back on. No more yo yo dieting!

The picture is me at Thanksgiving 2017, around 179 pounds. I'd be happy at that weight right now!

I love Girl Scout Cookies but I stopped buying them as we ate too many of them too.

Thanks Navywife - I hadn't realized I could go back so far to see my weight history in FS. Once I looked I started remembering everything I did to lose the weight and walking alot was a big part of it. Thanks Morticia - I've learned not to buy the GS cookies. I love the idea of having boxes in the freezer and every once in awhile having 1 or 2 of the mint cookies - but it didn't work out!

Yes, walking helps me so much. I use the treadmill in the winter but I didn't walk as much this year not feeling the best. I feel like Summer just went right by me but another thing was not feeling well and having a couple months of work done on my house all at the same time. Still a few days or so left once he returns from another small job. I think that will help my head when it is finally complete!:) lol

For me, I can moderate GS cookies, but do not put me near a bag of pretzels. We all have our kryotonite foods. That said, reading the description of how you were eating when you were losing, are you sure you were getting enough food? Slow, steady and sustainable takes longer, but you're less likely to yoyo. You will get to where you want to be with consistency 👍

thanks Navywife - it's hard for me to much of anything when there is work being done on my house. I don't want to leave unless the work is outside. Thanks writingwyo - I can resist pretzels. Sometimes I buy a bag as snacks knowing I won't overeat them! When I lost weight before I was doing intermittent fasting and then usually meant 1 or 2 meals a day. I'm going to post more today about "the last time" I lost weight
