Fritzy 22's Journal, 18 Oct 22

Yesterday I didn't do a thing. Just one of those days. I was really tired and lazy. I wanted to see how many steps I got in on a day like that because it happens more often than it should. It was about 6000 steps. So this morning I was motivated to take Bobby for a walk. I did about 1500 steps before going outside and walked somewhere between 3500-4000 steps. Aiming for 8600 minimum is going to be my goal going forward. Once I do that on a regular basis I'll up it to 11,000. I am really surprised how easy it can be if I just get up and move around for a bit. A morning walk motivates me for the rest of the day.

Saw the doe with her 2 fawns early this morning, before it was light. I had gone out after letting Bobby out for a few minutes and sprinkled about a cup of bird food on the tree stump. This time of year I get lots of sparrows and juncos that get the food off the ground. As soon as I got inside I saw Mama with her babies coming to check out the food. Then I saw all of them watching me and Bobby on our walk. When I got home I took another cup of bird food and sprinkled it all around the pond so I could watch the birds and squirrels. But Mama deer and babies found it right away.

I hope to stir fry brussels sprouts and mushrooms later in the day and have half a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch.

Sounds like you had a feeding frenzy. How comforting to have them all visit. Enjoy your lunch!:)😋

Thanks Navywife - It's usually the bucks that come from somewhere close when I go out early in the morning to put out bird food. I would regularly see about 4 or 5 of them. I think they watch me, knowing I feed the birds. I can't figure out where the bucks are. The only thing that might be possible is a new house is being built behind me about 3 houses down. That's the area the bucks often come from. Maybe they are staying away from the building site. But even that seems unlikely.

Fritzy, do you have a salt lick out in your yard for your deer families? Figured this would be an incentive to keep them around, especially since you've got water for them now. This video shows you how to do it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KC9YZFWqxvU

Yeah! Makes you wonder where the bucks are. Maybe the noise and people building has them elsewhere.?

thanks Bananas, I did try a salt like on my property once. The deer had no interest in it. There usually is no issue keeping the deer close. They are just ALWAYS here. Except for right now. Hopefully the bucks will be back soon. Thanks Navywife - I'll just keep looking for the bucks. There is still plenty of wildlife to enjoy. I have all kinds of birds hopping all around the pond now that it's full of nice fresh water. It's so hard to keep that thing clean but I'm glad the took the time - about 3 days - to get it nice. We'll see what happens when all the leaves start falling.

Since we don't have much wildlife here in the desert ( except coyotes) I am living vicariously through you! Hope the deer come back!! 💜👍

You have nice company on your walks.

Diana - do you have skunks or raccoons or possums? Sometimes I get raccoons at night. I think they ate lots of the peaches off my peach tree that the deer couldn't get to. Thanks Sidnay - there are usually deer, wild turkeys and squirrels around when we walk. My dog Bobby is good about not barking at the turkeys or deer but can't help himself if it's a squirrel

I get about 7000 steps a day by doing nothing. It is kind of a relief actually as my doctor thinks 7000 steps is good.
