Fritzy 22's Journal, 10 Oct 22

I got back from my trip to Oregon on Friday around 2pm. I left at 6am even though it was dark (I hate driving in the dark) and foggy in spots. When it's time to go home I just want to get home! I only stopped once for gas and got home about an hour before what my car's GPS had calculated at the start of the trip.

I haven't weighed myself since getting home. Don't want to know just yet. I didn't take anything bad to have in the hotel room, no chips or cookies. But I didn't anything really healthy on the trip. Chinese food one day, a calzone bit enough for 3 meals on another day. I met with a real estate agent and a mortgage officer. I really want to move to a place that gets rain once in awhile and where the weather is cooler than it is where I live. I get so tired of 100+ days in the summer. When I left Oregon it was in the 50's. I was wearing long sleeves and a coat. Still wearing them when I got home where it was 92.

Spent an hour this morning ironing pillow cases and sheets! It's something I never do. I've probably only pulled the ironing board out of the closet 3 or 4 times in the past 10 years. But a couple months ago, during a night of insomnia I ironed pillow cases just to have something to do. I loved having them ironed! My mom always had sheets ironed but it never mattered to me. I doubt I'll do it on a regular basis but felt like it this morning. I'm going to work on portion control this week. Was a little disappointed my house sitter didn't eat any of the food I bought her. Usually she does but she told me she is trying to reduce how much processed food she eats. So I have frozen hash brown potatoes. Just because I can fit 4 of them on the tray in the toaster oven doesn't mean I have to cook and eat 4! I have one cooking now. There are also toaster strudels in the freezer and hot pockets.

Bobby seems happy to have me home and the cats are already getting meals an hour earlier than when I was gone. They expect to eat between 3 and 4 (am and pm!) while my goal is between 5 and 6 when Marco needs his insulin shot. The house sitter said all of the cats were friendly, not afraid of her and even sat with her when she was on the sofa. I think they are getting used to her. I imagined Marco hiding for 5 days, only coming out for meals but was glad he was friendly and not afraid.

Not sure what I am going to do the rest of today. The ironing is done, the house is clean and it's not even 9am.

I also hate driving in the dark and try not to which is difficult in the winter here as we live so far out. I have beginning cataracts so it is not a good idea to drive at night. I also do not like extremes in the weather. I love 60s the best and am okay with 50s and 70s. 80s here are humid and hot. 40s are cold. I ironed a lot as a child and swore I would never again. I have an iron somewhere but I am not sure where. I don't eat toaster strudels or hot pockets but would probably succumb to the hash browns.

Glad you're home safe. And good for your housesitter not eating processed food! Maybe next time you take off, you could just leave out a fruit bowl of apples, oranges and grapefruit. Those will all keep for a week without turning.

Glad you're home safe and sound. I also do not like to travel in the dark, but sometimes we can't get around it.

Did you have any luck with realtor? I love Oregon!!

Thanks Morticia - I love the 60's for mild weather. And the 50's are fine with a cardigan. I can deal with the low 70's but don't really like it warmer than that. So I live in the wrong place! Love it here from November through April though. I used to love toaster strudels but hadn't had them for nearly 20 years until I put some in the freezer for the house sitter. Same with hot pockets, I used to take them for lunch before retiring. Hash browns are hard to resist! Thanks Bananas - the housesitter had told me before not to bother having food for her, but I always get a take and bake pizza and some other convenience foods. She said she usually eats junk because she is always in someone else's house and doesn't like cooking there so ends up with take out food and snacks. I thought about fruit for next time, maybe some yogurt and string cheese. Thanks Sidnay - I was just so anxious to start on the 8 hour drive home that I couldn't wait for it to get light! Thanks Diana - I really liked the realtor. He is at a new home development but could show me homes all over town. I learned something I didn't know. I've always lived in California and property taxes are reassessed when a home sells based on the purchase price. Motivates you not to sell your house. In Oregon the taxes don't change. So one house he showed me that I really liked has property taxes about 1/3 of what I pay currently. Also made me think buying a new home there isn't a good idea since taxes would be based on the purchase house of the home.

I'm glad you made it home safe! I figured Bobby would be extra happy and the cats were ready to be spoiled with their feedings. lol I don't like driving or riding in the dark. Especially, in the fall with so many deer running around. I would just fit the food in a little at a time like you say until it's gone. It was nice of you to get things for her. Sorry she didn't eat it. I like to iron but got a little burned out with ironing for myself so many years and all my husband's military clothes. I hope you get to move soon to better temps and some rain!:)

Thanks Navywife - I think Bobby and the cats are happy enough with the house sitter - she takes good care of them and all they really care about is the food. I never drive in the dark but just wanted to be on my way home so I left figuring it would just be an hour before it got light. I want to move but am having trouble actually making the decision to move. It would be 500 miles away to a place I love but where I don't know anyone. So I keep putting it off and now we are getting to the time of year that I enjoy where I live now. I would miss all the wild life no matter where I moved to although I haven't seen any deer since I got home and only a couple of wild turkeys.

That’s great that Bobby and the cats are content with the housesitter. Well, maybe consider moving in the Spring. It would be hard moving where you don’t know anyone. Hard decisions, for sure. I am sure it will work out the way it is supposed to!:)
