I prcrastinate. So much and all the time. I wasn't always that way but since I retired I am just awful at putting things off. It can affect my eating because I'll buy food, like chicken, ground beef, vegetables, etc with the plan that I'll get the veggies sliced and diced and ready to stir fry, etc and the chicken cut up and weighed and then freeze it ready for stir frying or just cooking. And then I don't do it and notice the mushroom get slimy after a few days. But my house is where I really notice it. I got new window coverings over 3 years ago, in 2018. Vertical blinds because of the cats and I got blinds for 2 skylights hoping to cut down on electrical bills during the summer when the house gets so hot. I got a remote control for the skylight blinds. I could only open them for about 3 months and then the remote control stopped working. One blind was stuck open and the other stuck closed. I never did anything about it. About 2 months ago one of the slats in the vertical blinds on the sliding glass door broke off. It tore at the top. I had extra slats but couldn't figure out how to install one (I actually broke one). I've had it on my to do list for months to call Budget Blinds to see if they would come out and fix the issues. I just got a battery for the remote control for the skylight blinds and that didn't help. Finally, today I called. So easy, they were so nice and are coming out in 2 weeks to fix everything. I waited nearly 3 years! I've also got it on my list to call the glass store to see if the sliding glass door in my bedroom can get new rollers on the bottom and if the other doors need them as well. I swear I might have hurt my back opening the one door, it is so hard to open. The glass guy can probably also fix my glass shower door. I have had that on my list for over a year. Maybe tomorrow I'll call them. The glass place has replaced all my screen doors, several windows and window screens, even a broken bathroom mirror. I just put off calling them. I did manage to cross of other things on my list - I called and had a tree company cut down an oak tree. I didn't waste too much time because I was afraid the tree might fall on my house. Also called the vet to check my cat Marco's teeth. He has dental work scheduled in 2 weeks. I have bills on the counter I forget I need to pay. I think it's because nearly everything is set up for automatic payment. Anyway, I feel good about calling Budget Blinds, but there are some slimy mushrooms I need to toss out. I did manage to use about half of them in a stir fry a few days ago.

Please don’t eat slimy mushrooms. I wouldn’t worry about putting repair things off the past few years. I have things that need to be fixed but I kept people out of the house because of the plague. And no regrets. I am doing some of it now, but slowly because it all costs money.

Kat - I never eat slimy mushrooms! I throw out too much produce because I don't use it fast enough. I just checked and I bought the mushrooms, asparagus and brussels sprouts last Tuesday, the 26th! Sometimes the days on the calendar go by so fast although each day seems endless since I do so little. I used up the asparagus and brussels sprouts. As soon as I got home from the grocery store I washed the mushrooms, and dried them and put them in a glass pryex covered dish. I've learned that if I leave them in the package the grocery puts them in with the clear plastic over the little box that go bad in a day or two. I just checked and they still look good. But since I've had them for over 10 days I won't use them. It's not that I deliberately put things off - I've been wanting the skylight blinds fixed for nearly 3 years but just don't do it. During the pandemic when I thought I was going to put my house up for sale I had someone here for a week painting my kitchen cabinets. Also had the inside of the house painted, the windows washed, drywall fixed. As long as the workers stayed more than 6 feet away from me I didn't worry about Covid. Everything does cost money and I give my pets priority. The vet is the most expensive of all the things on my list but when I noticed Marco's gums were bleeding I took him in right away. Thanks Morticia - I'm not working that hard on things. The only reason I did the oak tree was because the tree service agreed with what I thought - if the tree fell it would fall either on the master bedroom or the guest bedroom on the other side of the house. I slept on the couch in the family room until the tree was finally cut down. I do need to call the glass place though

You are getting things done and your load will be lighter.

I so understand! I didn't realize how much routine kept me organized and on top of things.

My sliding door in my camper was getting kind of stuck and hard to open like that. I too am a procrastinator and put off getting things taken care of or done. So after about a year of putting up with the strain of opening the darn thing, a light bulb went off and I sprayed cooking spray (that's the only oil I had) along the track and down in the bottom of the door and PRESTO. Works like new again. I don't know if that will help you, but it won't hurt to try.

I too am a procrastinator and have many things that need to be done. I think there is an emotional component to it, like it causes stress to even deal with it. May I give one tip? It's the moisture in the original sealed container or washing them before storing them that contributes to faster spoilage. The secret to mushroom storage is that they stay fresh longer if you take them out of their container. Wrap them in paper towels placed in "open" plastic bags (paper bags are even better) when keeping them in the fridge. Thank you for being so open, it blessed me!

I never procrastinated while I was working, but now I am retired with more time, I find I am getting the habit and I am trying to squash it before it really does get entrenched in my daily routine.

Thanks Navywife! Hope you enjoy your weekend. I'm retired so every day is the weekend! Thanks Morticia - I am getting a few things done but sometimes that causes more things that need to be done. Like having the tree cut down solved one problem but now I am stressing out about what to do with all the huge rounds. Thanks Tink - It is a lack of a routine that seems to be the cause of my procrastination. Thanks Cwazyting - I actually did spray Pam cooking spray in the tracks of all 3 sliding doors. It helped, briefly. The window washer also cleaned the tracks really well - lots of pollen from the oak trees. But the doors are probably the original from when this house was built in the 1990's. Someone said to have the wheels on the bottom of the door checked and maybe replaced. Hope I don't need the whole door replaced! Thanks Snowwhite - I think you are right, I get stressed just thinking about what I need to do! I did clean and then dry the mushrooms when I bought them and put them in a glass container with a top. They actually still look okay, but I don't usually eat produce when it gets over a week old. I have started to buy mushrooms by pieces if they are available. That way I don't get more than I need - usually 6-10 mushrooms is plenty. But I bought the package thinking I would use them up in the stir fry. Paper towels are very helpful! Thanks Chemogirl - It's funny how being retired has caused me to procrastinate since I have all the time I need to keep on top of things. It helps if I make a list the night before of things I want to accomplish the next day. But I need to keep the list small or I don't bother with it.
