Fritzy 22's Journal, 05 Jan 22

I just got back from the little local grocery store. First time I have seen a loaf of bread for over $5! I like to keep a loaf of Oroweat potato bread in the freezer for sandwiches. It was $5.39! So I bought Oroweat's oat nut bread on sale for $2.99. I like to have a loaf of that for sandwiches and toast. I am cooking lunch - tuna salad with shell macaroni. I love that the grocery store sells celery by the stalk. I bought 2 stalks for the tuna salad. If I buy the whole bunch I usually throw it out 2 weeks later. I have a tough time with mayonnaise - I use a couple tablespoons when I make egg salad or a tuna salad. I looked at the jar in the refrigerator which was more than half full and the "use by" date was June of 2021. I did have a new jar in the pantry. I waste alot of food!

snag those little packets of mayo when you can. easier than tossing a jar. personally, I use greek yogurt as mayo instead. if I really need mayo, I'll make it. super easy.

I think most of us do waste a lot of food. But you are aware of it and can stay on top of it.

Agree with Katsolo. That is exactly what I do except for the making it myself.

Thanks Katsolo, Baileys, Crazycat - I've seen little packets of mayo and mustard - I also use very, very little mustard. But I buy Best Foods light mayo, less calories and fat. I don't think the mayo packets would help. I rarely put mayo on sandwiches, switching years ago to just mustard (except veggie and/or bacon sandwiches). When I make tuna salad or egg salad or even potato salad I use several tablespoons of mayo. Maybe I'll try greek yogurt, I've never had plain yogurt.
