Home now. Here are a few photos of the last days of our trip.

* On the 14th we visited the cathedral in Santa Fe and lit a candle for my mother on her birthday.

*The next day we visited Valle Grande and the caldera. This is an area that is known for it's supervolcano, that formed 1.25 million years ago during a catastrophic eruption. It's a stunning area. This is the place my ancestral grandmothers (Jemez) came from, before they migrated to Chihuahua, MX. We are planning on making this a yearly trip and bringing our kids and my sister, as a way to honor our ancestral grandmothers.

*Our next and last stop before heading home was Jemez, NM where we visited the Jemez Historic Site. About 700 years ago, the ancestors of present day people of Jemez Pueblo (Walatowa), built a pueblo in this canyon and called it Giusewa. After the Spanish came, the Franciscan missionaries designed a church and priests quarters. The church and surrounding buildings were built between 1621 - 1625 and was named San Jose de los Jemez. The church was abandoned by 1640 and the pueblo of Giusewa was abandoned during the Pueblo Revolt in 1680. The 7 acre site was excavated in 1921 and 1922.

Beautiful photos and what rich history! Glad you made it home safely! Sounds like a wonderful idea to go back annually with more of your family.

Thank you Melissa. I was a bit worried I would have a hard time, but our dear friends, that we were staying with, made that day (I share my birthday with my mother) very special for me. 💕

I love Santa Fe, such a pretty town.

Thank you everyone. Wifey, we used the radar feature on the weather app to avoid a storm that was passing over the mountain range by our place. I don't remember ever going through that mountain pass so soon after a storm and it was simply beautiful. Ridemariel, it was a very nice time with our friends. It's been years since we've spent time together. We've been friends for almost 30 years.

Thank you DP. Everywhere we visited was beautiful in its own unique way. Thank you cherrywoman, it was meaningful to light a candle for my mother, as she passed away last year. ❤ Thank you Erq. When we first visited the cathedral some years back, we couldn't go in because there was an event taking place. On this trip, we were able to finally visit on our second try. After visiting the cathedral, we got caught in a downpour while walking back to our car. Truly a cleansing experience, both spiritually and physically. 😁

Thank you Tim. I kept taking trying to capture the beauty, but photos do not compare to the real thing. As for the people, we live in a rural community in southwest new mexico, so we were actually around a lot more people on this trip then we are on a daily basis at home. 🌄

Thank you Kat. ❤ Everywhere we went was just gorgeous, very green especially up around Taos. Santa Fe architecture is stunning and has such a low-key vibe. Enjoyed every minute.

Thank you Bear 🐻. 💕 My mother was sick for so many years, so whenever I was traveling and near a church, I would light a candle and offer up prayers for my Mamita. 💕

Fantastic trip and pictures! It warms the memories. We do feel like we need to go back to our roots. I, too, went back to Slovakia many years ago, and I miss my Germany, where I spent the most significant part of my life...

Thank you INF. For some their heritage doesn't mean much, but I love all that I have and continue to discover about my roots. How wonderful that you were able to visit and experience your heritage. ❤
