gilliansings's Journal, 07 May 14

Beautiful day here in Oregon with mild, high-60s temperature wise. When I got to work, my client was sitting all by her lonesome in the front Fireside room, so I grabbed her sunglasses and we headed out for a nice 20-minute walk.

Then, after I'd been home about an hour and my back was hurting just sitting, I grabbed my sunglasses and music and headed out for a nice brisk 30-minute walk. This is the first time in over two weeks that I have exercised on consecutive days. It felt really good.

Only bummer is, last time I went for a walk my feet were getting VERY hot in my normal trainers and socks. I can't wear thinner socks because my feet move around inside the shoe too much, causing blisters. Since I was only going for a half-hour walk, I decided to wear my old Teva sandals. I tightened the front and back adjustments. They have really good built-in arch support, so my hope was that I'd be more comfortable with my feet breathing more.

Nope, while it felt great to not have hot feet, within 15 minutes I felt blisters beginning to form and when I hit the part of the walk with some road construction, I had to deal with little pebbles getting into my shoe. Boo!! Can't win for losing!

Guess I'll just have to deal with hot feet (and yes, my shoes have the mesh-type uppers that supposedly allow your feet to breath).

Have a great rest of your day everyone!

Just having to wear sneakers is killing me. My flip flops only rested for the really bad snow and once the walkways were clear they were back on my feet again.

I'm in Oregon, too! :) Have you tried getting high quality socks? I know I have some socks that just bug me but the nicer ones do a lot better job - maybe something more synthetic and less cottony would be better? Also baggy socks bother me! I know I cant stand moving in socks/shoes that are causing irritation! It can ruin a workout and that is no bueno! Hope you can find a combo that works for you soon!

hollywoodoregon, gee, I'd never have guessed you were in Oregon! (jk) I bought Gold Toe low-cut athletic socks, but I think I will try a synthetic pair to see if they stay cooler. I generally prefer cotton. My other issue is that I feel the "hot" sensation for more reasons than lack of ventilation and overheating. It is also related to neuropathy/spinal nerve issues. Half way through almost any walk, my left foot burns more than my right and that is the side all my nerve issues are on. So...bottom line, I might find the perfect sock solution and still not be happy. C'est la vie!

Oh that is interesting...I hope you find a better combo soon! Good luck!!! Enjoy the wet weekend. I am hoping for sun tomorrow! Hosting a baby shower and want to be able to entertain outside!

Hahaha, baby "shower" outside in Oregon in May, hmmm....There is just no predicting here in Oregon, is there. Someone we know got married 3 weeks ago and had beautiful weather and yet my daughter went to a wedding in South Carolina in January and the weather went from 60 degrees down to 30 degrees overnight. Not exactly their usual weather. Still, anyone that gets married in January really needs to have their head examined, lol.

but i secretly dream of a winter wedding at timberline lodge covered in snow. swoon.

Let me clarify, hollywoodoregon...you don't need your head examined to dream of a winter wedding if you ACCEPT the weather conditions likely to be present. You only need your head examined if you THINK you'll get to have an outdoor wedding in January, lol.

Just wanted to chime in here--it's great that both you and your client got to take a nice walk today, AND you walked again, shoe issues notwithstanding. Plus! I wanted to say I'm in Oregon too, in Portland, and right when I thought I'd need my sunglasses, I didn't. I recommend the engineered (special athletic, made to help keep your feet cool) socks. I know they can't help your neuropathy but I think you might find yourself much more comfortable. I resisted them for a long time because the extra expense didn't seem warranted as I'm not an athlete, and they weren't natural fibers. Then I decided that they are a tool on my path to wellness, and so worth the little extra cost. I can sometimes find them at the big discount places (Ross, etc.) but even Fred Meyer has a number of choices. I hope your blisters heal quickly and you can get back out on the road!
