Kenna Morton's Journal, 30 Apr 21

I saw a bunch of these on our walk today. This beautiful flower comes from a plant with fern type fronds. Lots of them growing in a wild space really beautiful. caesalpinia plant—- Desert Bird of Paradise. My friend who has the brain cancer has trouble remembering names, even mine, but she can look at a plant and tell you immediately what it is, it’s Latin name and common name. It’s a real trip.

this looks like one of the plants whose leaves react when you touch them by closing. let me see if I can find the name. and I'm not that clever, I'm texting my master gardener neighbor.

Lovely. Thanks for sharing. We have Bird of Paradise here, but they're tropical. :)

My walking group just basically throws a dart at the map and that’s where we go. Places and neighborhoods we didn’t know existed, all around college and university campuses, to the beach, the hills. No boredom. Then we find wonderful things like that this plant that none of us had ever seen before. Before you know it we have clocked 3-4 miles. We even came across a tree that had been taken over by a pretty large group of escapee parrots. So amazing.. a lady that was walking by said that a few years ago they just started showing up one by one and basically made that tree thier home.

If they’re green parrots with red, they’re wild. They’re amazing. We have a local flock of about twenty in my neighborhood. I think they’re wonderful Evite l except for the one who pooped in my eye when i was trying to take a picture.
