Happy Monday everyone. Today is a great day indeed. I say this not because everything is perfect, but I am accepting that everything is as it should be. It was a crazy busy weekend – Life at full throttle. My wife’s mom (she is 85) fell and was admitted to the hospital. Serious enough that my wife is there to help. They do not have the greatest of relationships and I have serious boundaries with the MiL– this of course is a whole other post that I’ll spare you on. I also have my youngest sons B-day Sunday and our niece brought her new baby to lunch so we could meet her. It was a lot of moving parts and stress, but we were able to navigate pretty well. There was a lot of driving and mountain passes in the snow involved in connecting the dots. I am focusing on the Joys of a beautiful new life and the renewed connection with my son.
The lessons learned that I am taking away from this weekend is that I need to tune up my plans and get my things in order. Life happens very fast and as I have experienced, things can change in the blink of an eye. I need to make sure that my kids have all the information and tools in place so that they do not have to have the additional stress of “figuring things out” for my wife and I during an emergency. Not that any of it is every easy but I can certainly mitigate some of the administrative details that are necessary in those processes. I hope that you all had a great weekend and that can make those healthy connections to family and friends.

PS- I wanted to make an honorable mention on lunch with my son – the BBQ place we went to had buffalo cauliflower bites – they were seriously amazing.

Great post. I think the pandemic has brought home to many people the need for emergency preparations both financial and terminal. Someone needs to have power of Attorny for your banking so they can keep your rent or mortgage paid, your bills paid, etc. those who own homes need a trust with that house covered. Probate in California can take 2 years or more. Meantime——

I have lost 16 people in my world to Primarily Covid in the last 16 months and only 2-3 were considered “elderly”. 40-60 and younger (17, 10, 37] many of those families were no where near prepared to deal with it in terms of the legalities and financial implications. And for goodness sake, if you are a blended family, deal with it now.
