OK, the Tanita gods must be pissed off about my doubts about the fat percentages, because after an INCREDIBLY low calorie day, I got hammered on these numbers! I went up from 216.4 this morning to 217.0 tonight. But that's not the worst thing. My fat percentage is higher than ever, my visceral fat is worse than ever, and even my freaking metabolic age is worse than ever! : (

I slept in, worked out, ate some yogurt with protein powder and chia seeds at 1pm. Then I had a few coffees and then drank water all day. Wasn't going for super low cal but just didn't get hungry so waited for dinner. I weighed myself at 6:30 pm. I got these numbers! Yuck. Come on, morning!

1/04/14 Tanita Numbers (pre-dinner, 5.5 hours after breakfast:

Weight - 217.0
Total body fat pct - 21.8 (what the hell?)
Total body water pct - 53.7 (this dropped precipitously despite huge intake)
Visceral fat rating - 12 (never been higher than 11 before)
Muscle mass lbs. - 161.4 (dropped ten pounds here!)
Physique rating - 6
Bone mass lbs. - 8.4
Daily Calorie Intake - 4007 (2251 BMR)
Metabolic age - 40 (went from 27 to 40 in one day!)

So, do I STOP DRINKING SO MUCH WATER? LOL.

My guess is that your water weight is fluctuating. Especially in light of the changes due to the holiday meals and celebrations. Going into Ketosis you lose water, eating some high carb days reverses this and makes you retain water. Also, when we take in extra calories, the body will store it first as visceral fat. Fortunately its also the first place the body turns for fuel when you run a caloric deficit. I think that if you just stay the course and let your body adjust and re-set, your metabolic processes will even out and your numbers will track more steadily and reliably in the proper direction.

I would see what it says in the morning, Bill. Only thing I don't understand is the low fat thing. You might want to do less protein and add in some of the good fats like coconut oil or olive oil. *gasp* Fat burns fat. Too much protein can turn to fat and not muscle. I am not into the numbers like you guys but this is what I am hearing. I can be totally wrong here but I noticed you don't eat much fat in your diet. Most definitely drink more water. You may be okay by morning...

This is just for thought..but, I am a woman and older than you, so I know all this stuff is really different for different people, but it seems you calories are a little low. Sometimes, our bodies go into starvation mode and saves ANYTHING we put into it for survival. Just a thought..:-)
