abbadabba's Journal, 13 Dec 10

I have been reading up on journals and philosophizing with my roommate about life. Life is a journey, etc. - ok, we agree with that. But on a day-to-day basis we are like cakes: the ingredients have to be good, and the mixing has to be done just so to get the best possible results. What's in your mixing bowl today? lol!

Back to our regularly scheduled recitation! The weekend was full to say the least.

On Friday, I got out of work early to meet up with the oil burner guy so he could clean my furnace. Also, my Girl Scouts came over to make gingerbread houses - they really are cute and the moms who help are awesome. I won't see them again until after New Year's.

For dinner, I ate leftovers. I studied for my tax preparer's exam - 28 chapters. I went to bed early so I would be fresh for the exam. I did "terrific" according to the computer! Ended with an 87 average for the class. Yay, me!

Saturday after class, I came home and cleaned up some paperwork, moved my desk, did laundry - you know, cleaned up for the cleaning ladies to come! Lol. I do more clean up now that I have cleaning ladies!

When K got home from her volunteer stuff, roommate and I went out to dinner at the Sparta Diner. Yummy. We had a lovely time - we were the only ones there and the waitress is very friendly. I tried to lighten up my dinner but I think it was about average - lamb, fries, green beans, salad.

Then we went out shopping because I was complaining that I don't have any holiday outfits. K LOVES SHOPPING! I was getting a cart for our coats and by the time I came back, she had a dozen things for me to try on! Some were bad. But others were good, and I got a nice dress for parties. I bought a bunch of stuff.

Then I went to contradancing for an hour.

Sunday, I slept in, worked on laundry, played with my parrots, relaxed. Then K and I decided that we would go to the house tours put on for a fundraiser by the Chamber of Commerce. People really put a lot into decorating their homes - 5 houses total. At the second house, unfortunately, K got a flat tire. AAA didn't answer, and it was pouring down, driving rain - no one at the house offered to help but maybe we were just too competent-looking. K's dog was confused about why she couldn't stay in the car. Ugh. I was soaked through and filthy after I changed the tire - blah. We went straight to the refreshment house for cookies and mulled cider!

Once home, I got dressed (fancy cocktail dress) to go to the Contradancing Cotillion - that was so cool! All the regulars and everyone else dressed up in tuxedos and long gowns, gloves, hats, etc! So beautiful! The dancing was a little tame - although I did do the schottische which is a lot of hopping and twirling at the same time. One person actually fell down during this dance! Not hurt though. I ended up not having a lot of food Sunday overall, but I made up with cookies so the calorie count was probably up there!

Ok: this week, K made a goal of getting on the treadmill 3 times this week. My goal is: write down everything I eat for the week. I have to get past that 155 already! And think positively - I can do it.

Hope you had a great weekend too, and a lovely Monday!

Sounds like you really had a great weekend except the changing of the tire. Now have an even better week. Bren

I love whenever people get really dressed up. No matter what the reason, it always feels festive and special, especially at this time of the year. Sounds like fun. Like your idea about the cake. I don't have enough brain power to think about what's in my bowl today--maybe that says it all. ;) Great work on the exam prep. Hope the real test goes as well.

What a great week-end, so much accomplished and so many good times - well changing the tire not so much, but on the whole you sound like you had a lot of fun. Its great that your room-mate is working out so well. Good luck with your goal, I know you can do it. And I hear you about cleaning up before the cleaning crew get there - I used to do the same thing when I had a cleaning lady. Silly, but I always thought they can't clean if the house isn't tidy.
