Kenna Morton's Journal, 30 Sep 20

I have altered my own walking schedule to accommodate a very close friend . We have known each other 30 years. I knew her when a gang of us would go up to my ranch for 4-5 days and hike 10 miles before breakfast and another 10 during the day.. I knew her when she got a little pudgy at 5’2” tall and when she became overweight and when she became obese and could no longer go to the ranch with us except to sit on the porch and wait for the rest of us to return. I knew her when she started having elevated blood sugars and when she started on Metformin then quit because of the side effects. I knew her during the time when she was “fired” as a patient by 2-3 separate doctors for noncompliance. I knew her when she started on BP meds and statins. I knew her when she had her first heart attack with A 99% blockage in 3 of her major vessels. I knew her during three episodes of congestive heart failure and as she started on her second oral diabetic medication and injectable insulin. And now she has finally decided she thinks she might start walking. So now we walk. I will put for the effort and I hope she is serious but it is like getting on the bandwagon not only after the barn door has been left open but after the barn has burned down and been replaced by condos. I hope she does this but truly not holding my breath.

I had a family member, who did nothing for their health for years, despite all efforts from family and friends. I learned along that journey of slowly watching them commit suicide, that I could love them but also to prepare to bury them. It was not so much tough love, but it made it easier when that fatal day did come.

WindyFlowers— it is very sad and I just don’t get it.

That is very sad but you can only be there for her and be a good example. We will pray for you both.

How’s this friend doing Kenna? Are you both still walking? Fingers crossed she stayed the course somehow.
