Do you ever need reminders of why you keep trying? I have many reasons why I never ever want to be fat and unfit again, but one motivation is travel. I long to go and enjoy the endless walking without being weary. I want to wear nice things. I don't want to stick out as the chubby North American. Maybe next summer we can go on a trip again!

This is Colmar, France near the German border. Its cobblestone streets are lined with half-timbered medieval and early Renaissance buildings. It is beyond beautiful! We were there to take these photos in 2018. I can't wait to return!

There are so many reasons to not get fat again: the energy level, the confidence, the standing out in a crowd but for a good reason, the lack of medications, the ability to always find your size in a clothing store, making great first impressions on job interviews or potential dates and (later) their relatives. For singles: the broadening of the dating field. For parents: playing/teaching sports with your kids. But my favorite is just simply wearing the hell out of a Little Black Dress.

We stayed in an AirBnB in Colmar in 2014 for a few days. It was next to a fantastic bakery - but of course they all are. Love that area! Hope you get back there soon!

Yay for all those, bananas! I love the "little black dress." My girls and I were just talking last night about me getting a fun, flashy dress! sk, that is so cool! We stayed south of there not far from Lyon, so we only were in Colmar briefly on our way "home" to Germany. It is such a beautiful area. Yes, all the bakeries are amazing... I have not found a bad one yet!!! How long were you in France? Dreaming of travel is such a joy!

We spent about 1.5 weeks in France and 6 weeks in Europe on that occassion. Both my daughters speak French well and we know German so all the bases were covered. I don't like to be the Ugly American expecting everyone to speak English. In France, we spent several days in Dieppe and several days in Colmar. One of our best friends lives in Annweiler which is not too far. Also spent 2 weeks Belgium after visiting relatives in Northern Germany. Fun trip!!

Thank, #One! sk, that is terrific! Six weeks is awesome! Sadly, "Ugly American" tourists have given us a bad reputation. My Canadian husband speaks French enough to help us stumble along. We always make Germany our jump off point for exploring, since we have many dear friends there. We have bounced around to many countries, but I never get enough. How delightful you guys speak German or French as needed! That would be a big help in Belgium for sure!

Wow! Never left the US except to Puerto Vallarta for our 10th anniversary. Maybe one day I can go to Europe.

While we're on travel & sterotypes, I'll share this true story. Went to visit Neuschwanstein years ago with some German colleagues when I lived in Munich. If you don't know the castle, look it up and it might seem familiar. 🤔 So this American woman turns to her hubsand and exclaims - not so quietly - "Look Honey! They copied the castle from Disney!" 😂Painfully sad & funny all at the same time.

Aww, thanks, blessed. I would rather have been 30 pounds lighter. I wasn't at my heaviest, but it will be great to travel "lighter!"😁 Princess, traveling in Russia was our first introduction to international travel as a couple, and anything was calm and easier after thst! Puerto Vallarta would be amazing! We have never been south!

Oh yeah after that picture you posted the other day you should be able to wear crop tops and bikinis next time you travel 🤣 😍 💪

That is horrible, sk! Grrrr! I am not good with languages, but we always try to make an effort at simple pleasantries. My husband has a knack for blending in wherever we go. He has been asked by locals for directions... Be it in Krasnoyarsk, Siberia or Rome, Italy. As long as the fat form of his wife wasn't too close to be a give away! 😁 Actually, for one trip I was fairly thin. It was a lot more fun, and I am looking forward to going again!!! 😁

Hahaha, blessed! That is sweet! You know... I have never been tempted to want to go to a "hot" spot to travel. To be covered up when there are beautiful people all around looking... Beautiful just sounded like misery. Maybe I could go now and be less self conscious! 😁

You’ve earned it !! Pick you a hot spot to travel to !! 🏝 👙 👗

Beautiful photos and wonderful message, Melissa! 💖 You are amazing and you will not revert back on all the progress you’ve made. My husband was born and raised near Strasbourg, about 30 mjn from Colmar. We lived there for a while in 2016-2017. I always loved seeing the mini Statue of Liberty that greets you at the entrance there. It reminded me of home.

Blessed, then you and I surely have the same goal! You absolutely will be ready for your next adventure and beyond! Every trip I've ever gone on was a frantic panic trying to lose pounds for the months before departing. Not again! I'd rather have a few pounds to lose after getting back! 😁

NewnameMM, thank you, for your kind words! That is so cool! And you actually lived in the area! Wow! Although nearby three times, we have never been to Strasbourg. Each of my 3 girls have been there a time or two, and I've wanted to go. Next time! I love the area so very much! ♥️
