Did you know?

The magic number “10,000” dates back to a marketing campaign conducted shortly before the start of the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games. A company began selling a pedometer called the Manpo-kei: “man” meaning 10,000, “po” meaning steps and “kei” meaning meter. It was hugely successful and the number seems to have stuck. I remember this well.

So although there is nothing magical about the number 10,000, if that is what it takes to get people out and moving it’s a good thing. Walking is good exercise all the way around. Don’t think that unless you can reach the golden number that your efforts are wasted. Every step you take is a step toward better health.
