Here are a few photos from my walk in Pioche, Nevada today. I learned that Pioche was once one of the most important silver mining towns in Nevada. The town had a reputation as being one of the roughest in the Old West. Mine owners hired gunman to protect their claims. In 1871-72 nearly 60% of the murders reported in Nevada occurred in or near Pioche. I'm glad things have settled down since then.
