Hello Dr. R., I need to thank you for your willingness to help me with the time capsule, it was a beautiful day in which I will always remember, even though I was a bit dissappointed. Mr. W. was taken a back that the time capsule wasn't there, but will contact a custodian by the name of Otto who worked at the campus and may have been the one who buried the darn thing. I will keep you up to date

President Kennedy said, "Ask not what your Country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your Country. I am asking,''What can I do for our school district and am hoping we find a way to inspire our neighbors to become involved with their children and their education as we develop schools that work well'' I believe parent participation is key to any success we will have and is very necessary in the middle and high school level as well as the elementary. I am aware of the public forum happening starting on October 19th to gather parents together to start trouble shooting our problems and I have faith that we as concerned parents will reach out to the parents who don't get involved for various reasons feel welcome to join in, because like it or not we are fighting for our childrens future.

I want to use the publicity of the time capsule to reignite hope for the future and the newly formed school district. How do we inspire our neighbors to open their minds to our New Charter Arts H.S. and regenerate our other high schools so our Twin Rivers school district IS THE PLACE parents want to send their children? I realize we have limited monetary resources, but want to think outside of the box and zone in on the resources that we already have (Bummer we can't find that old time capsule lol) Lets zone in on the things that are working and going well. Perhaps we can rally interest at the upcoming community Jubilee? I understand Mr. B. has a compiled list that the high school students just put together that expresses their hopes and dreams of THE SCHOOL of the future. Perhaps those dreams are what we need to fill our new time capsule with? If I remember right, this is how the CCAA dream was developed by knowing exactly what was needed and then working hard to make it happen. Re: the Arts High School, we are in a catch 22 because without enough students we don't get the funding, but without money for funding of the programs we won't get parents/ students who will register. The art charter elementary, CCAA is in it's 6th year and is a miraculous place of learning and has experienced remarkable results. It is pure magic. I know you understand how fabulous CCAA is as it is a place where there are enthusiastic teachers and administration who have hopes and dreams for the children and work very hard to provide an opportunity for growth and learning and provide a place that produces the most self confident, successful, happy children.

My perception of our neighborhood and it's youth in general has gone from bad to worse over the past 34 years. I understand the odds seem like they are against us in several ways but still believe we can create better schools and this is why I am standing behind the idea of the Arts High school. It was started as a pilot program this year in hopes of being a feeder high school for our children who now attend CCAA, but is possibly doomed if we don't find the momentum to keep the dream alive. I pray and will work for a high school in this district where I may proudly send my daughter to in the year 2013. If not, I will be forced to follow in the footsteps of so many other local parents and drive my student out of district if it insures Mary will get a quality education.

Thanks for all you do,
Sincerely yours, a very concerned parent, Lisa Bivens

Darn laptop last night...it wiped out my comments twice!!! Lol, but I still remember them. Lisa what grade is Mary in? If I understand correctly she will be starting HS in 2013. Is that junior or senior high? As a teacher, of course I appreciate all the learning that goes on at the school level but I know that personally my own home "education" made me a self-learner and self-motivated. My parents were a product of university education and to this day my mom is still harping about me not having a Master's degree. Lol. On vacations we ALWAYS hit museums and exhibits of every kind. My dad was a mathematics professor and my mom was a university languages instructor so they really lived what they preached. For example, we had a subscription to Time mag and newspapers that were always lying around, full of interesting maps, science photos, and discoveries. IMHO it's not about what a shcool can give to a student, but what a student can accomplish if they have the desire to learn. TOWANDA!!!
